we went for a walk this afternoon out at Strandhill beach and saw what we guessed was a rescue helicoptor, about 4 - 5pm (not sure of exact time), hovered just over the surf for about 15 minutes, never saw a helicoptor that low over the water before....hope nobody was in trouble, and maybe it was some sort of practice exercise?

Probably just a practice. The helicopter is based at Strandhill.

they are out training everyday, they do hovering exercises a lot, i've seen them throw in a manakin and practice winching etc
    probably just that.
