22.45 on most of the other BBC regions so anyone with Sky Digital can watch it earlier :)

That's MOTD ruled out for me so. I've managed to fall asleep during MOTD twice in the last few weeks. I just can't party like I used to back in the good old days!

    Oh, you crazy cat.
Sure get a nap in before hand. I'd imagine it will be one of the first games they show.

Get a few red bulls into ya at around 10.30pm, throw in a few vodka's if you're feeling like a mad baxtard and you'll sleep like a baby after MOTD.

No Sahin again either. If he did join us over Arsenal because he was told he'd get first team football he must be getting a bit pissed off.

I don't think he deserves to start going on what we've seen so far.

Yes..."out of position" blah blah blah....don't care. Not good enough.

I just can't fathom this by Rodgers. I wonder what bullsh1t he spun to Sahin to get him to pick LFC over Arsenal. In the being Liverpool episode where he talking about pushing Gerrard part of the front 3 & playing Shelvey with Lucas/Allen. I'm sure we all though that Sahin would replace Shelvey in that midfield trio.
In the last 5 league games Sahin has been subbed 3 times & not played any part in the last 2. His game time is 180 mins from a possible 450 mins. That's not good at all for a guy trying to get match fit.
I just hope when Lucas is back that Rogers will play Sahin as others have suggest in his correct position. If it don't happen he may as well go back to Madrid as its not doing him any good at all.
The sad fact is that we have a player that has the potential to be a star in the team, but he wont get the chance :(

Does that mean he'll wake up 3-4 times during the night screaming his head off due to a) having crapped his pants, b) being hungry, c) trapped wind, or d) reason unknown, just general screaming?*

*That's how Cartman Jnr (5.4 weeks old) does it these days anyway

Why on earth is our game not on tv, surely a Liverpool vs Spurs game is on the A list of fixtures.

Its on foreign telly so there will be streams later. Anyone arsed to start a match thread?

Yeah but streams are crap, being able to watch in comfort on sky would be much more preferable.

His last couple of interviews for German tv have had him gushing about the club, and retelling the story of being at the 2005 CL final.

He went into a bit of detail about how he has never played in the role that Rodgers uses him in, and that the traditional number 8 role is his best, but that he will do his best wherever he is put. Talked a bit about his fitness and settling in as well.

He does come across as quite an intelligent bloke, and seems to have a fair bit of gra for the club's history.

As for not deserving a start based on his form to date, well you do have a point there, but then again if we were to take form over the season so far as a reason to drop players, then the likes of Gerrard, Shelvey, Enrique (until of late), and a few others would not be getting within an ass' roar of the first team either.

Question though, how do you expect Sahin to adapt to the Premier league and also to get match fit without regular games? He has really only had one run where he had a few starts in a row and that three of four game run saw him get 3 goals and 3 or 4 assists. There are other players in the squad, and I am not thinking of Gerrard this time, who have played in England their whole career and somehow get excuses made over their inability to perfrom well. Excuses like they are young or settling. Surely those same excuses should be just as applicable for a youngish player playing in the country for the first time?

Personally I think that Rodgers should either play Sahin in his best position or just send him back, because using him out of position every now and then is no good to the team and no good to the player as he cannot get up to speed with the league or match fitness.

I think Rodgers' use of both Gerrard and Sahin has been poor, and that he is playing the two players in positions where neither can give the best of their abilities to the team.

As an aside, and to the other german speakers on here (Nuri, Oatsey etc), his german is quite interesting on the ear in terms of syntax and morphology making it somehow sound less Northern in terms of dialect than it should for a guy who was born in the North west and who grew up there. I am wondering if his fluency in other languages has taken the Sauerland twang from his accent. I know my own accent has been bastardized over the years through speaking German, Japanese, Flemish etc has left me with a strong germanic twang coming through my scouse accent (Think Didi's accent in reverse) but it is something that I tend not to notice save for when someone in the family mentions it (generally takes someone on my grandfather's side, Danish, to comment on it), but listening to Sahin speaking in German really piqued my curiousity and when I youtubed some older interviews of his(pre his time in Holland) the difference in his accent when speaking German is pretty interesting as his natural german (and he is a native speaker) now sounds like it is of a different dialect. I would have thought that he would have developed a twang from one of the other languages he speaks, but it sounds like his actual german accent has switched from a Northern dialect (North West to be more accurate) to a much more Southern dialect.

Bit slow getting back to you on this post and it's been pretty well covered in the meantime.

Good post and I'd agree with most of it but the bit I've bolded;I'm not sure this is the case. Fair enough, he's not being played in his favoured position but a lot of the time he just doesn't seem that interested to me.

Your last paragraph still has me scratching my head:D

Sounds good. Unless we make top four in the next 2 years, in which case it's a disgrace, Joe.

Honestly have no idea. I can't see it happening as it dilutes the competition. Removing one competition altogether is a moronic idea in my opinion. While giving the winner of the EL a spot in the CL is a relatively simple idea, implementing that would bring a bit more competition from the clubs that don't regard it worthwhile. Not to mention the parachuting of CL clubs that failed in the competition they qualified for dilutes the EL with more and more fixtures.

If anything needs a rethink, its the frankly ridiculous format of the EL that, if successful, teams play a stupid amount of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,365 ✭✭✭Crash Bang Wall

The format of the EL needs to be changed, both to make it attractive to the teams in it and reduce the ridiculous amount of games.

Something along the lines of the Winners and Runners up getting a Champions League slot would, IMO make it more attractive.

And third in the Champions League Groups shouldnt get a place either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,452 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Champions League = straight knock-out for champions only.
Europa League = straight knock-out for big teams (2nd-5th/6th in England/Spain/Germany/Italy)
Cup Winners Cup = straight knock-out for winners of domestic cup

We'll have the same number of rounds, but less matches. Television audiences will be similar, because although we won't have as many big teams in the CL, every match could deliver a shock. Nobody's tuning in to see Arsenal - Cluj in the middle of the group stage, but they would if it meant Arsenal could be eliminated.

Europa League - by having the likes of Barcelona, United, Munich etc in it, would win back its prestige and draw in similar audiences to the CL.

Cup Winners Cup would give us more European football for the smaller teams.

Never going to happen. The Europa League would have stronger depth than CL and the CL would lose its prestige. Uefa will not let that happen its their flagship event

One thing I'd like to see is a return to seedless draws, if you get pitted vs BVB, Barca, Inter, Utd then so be it. "If you want to be the man best you've gotta beat the man best" - Ric Flair

I am a bit upset that you bowed to peer pressure regarding the content of the match thread.

But on the other hand well played.

He could well be doing his best, but simply does not have the tools/confidence/experience to excel in a role that he had never played in at a high level.

I have heard the same disinterested/not trying his best comment aimed at Gerrard of late, and I think it is an incorrect assumption in that case as well. I simply think it is a case of age catching up, expectations being too high (as in people thinking that he can still do what he used to do) and being played in a position that is not good for him.

The last bit was me musing aloud after watching three of Sahin's most recent interviews for German tv. They were interviews after Liverpool games so they were up to date in terms of him talking about his fitness etc. It just had me wandering off into a different train of thought, and as there are a number of guys on here who speak German fluently as well as a few other languages (and at least two who still live in Germany). One replied by pm so I am happy. :)

Streams are great if you know where and what and how. Ive never had sky so maybe thats why i wouldnt miss it. A very popular uploader of streams is a Spurs fan so i expect him to have it up on s*pcast at 1.4'meg'. Wont know until an hour before. If he doesnt there will be plenty of other options.

Is this the same lad who last year had every major sky game on hi def stream, but seems to have gone missing a lot this year?

Daithijjj, do you know if you setup an american proxy to watch ESPN would it work ok? ESPN are playing it on their website for free in HD tonight. You obviously need an American IP address but I think a proxy would prob be too slow for streaming. Does anyone here use Hulu and what do you use to access it?
