in yesterday's game against Swansea when Gerrard tried to heel the back & lost it
it showed Gerrard after the mistake & he had the look of a guy really lacking confidence
he needs a goal i think
he hasn't scored a goal from open play since Gomel

I tend to agree and if Brendan is thinking along those lines he needs to implement that plan now.

We have options for the middle 3. Lucas is on the way back and IF Sahin is ever going to find form he needs game time.

Sahin will get better with Lucas back, as will Allen as will Gerrard.

All 3 midfielders are currently not playing in their strongest position. That will change when Mr Leiva comes back

Disagree. Gerrard can adopt. One of his best games was when he had to revert to right full after an injury (can't remember who we were playing)

Brendan needs to man up, difficult with such a legend but that little chat must happen.

Also, Gerard doesnt need to play every week. He should be rested / rotated. We rotate himself and Sterling

If you disagree with me, why would Brendan need to man up and have a chat? I am saying that the deeper CM slot does not suit Gerrard and that role is the one that I do not think he can adapt his style of play to.

I am not saying he cannot play, and be effective, in other positions. What I have been saying in my posts today is that I would prefer to see Rodgers play Gerrard in another position. To be specific I mean one of the attacking positions, as I think Gerrard needs to be used in the final third at this point of his career.

So if you are disagreeing with me about what I am saying, would you mind telling me why you think Gerrard could adapt to the deep CM role that Rodgers is using him in, and what exactly is it about Gerrard's current play in that particular role that suggests he can adapt to that deep role because I just cannot see it anytime I see him in that particular position. Gerrard in a CAM position I can see, Gerrard in a variation of the wide forward slot I can see, but Gerrard as a deep lying CM, a role that involves a lot of running and mobility, not to mention linking with the back four, I just don't see.

Every player takes time to adjust and it can take longer with foreign lads. What we need to remember is that Lucas is class.

My last post was not in reply to yours, I didn't quote the guy I was disagreeing with.....

We are on the same wavelength.

Actually this post is hard to disagree with fully.

I do disagree with your take on Lucas, but then again how a person rates a player is a personal opinion.

Your other points are much harder to disagree with though. There does seem to be a bit of Lucas getting more and more highly rated whilst injured, and I would agree that Lucas coming back would not be the answer to all the team's problems.

But I do think that if Lucas comes back, and if he regains his best form( and remains uninjured) that he will make the team better through his ability and through the fact it should allow other players to play in their best roles also.

Now there are a hell of a lot of ifs there, and I still think that we are a quality midfielder short even with Lucas back, but I know I am eager for him to return (despite a few concerns which I aired here earlier) because imho he is the best player in our squad for the DM role.

He will certainly play a big part in helping the midfield problems.

The team is lacking a goalscorer, Lucas being back won't impact that obviously. Although if Gerrard gets pushed forward it should hopefully result in more goals for the team

I cannot wait for the return of King Lucas and he will be a huge addition to the team.

However, do not forget our biggest problem is scoring goals. We need a striker.

Lucas back in the team could mean Gerrard pushed forward and IMO that will help but we really need a new striker,

what is it with our fans on this forum completely ripping into club legends like Carragher and Gerrard lately. fair enough Carraghers finished at the top level and Stevie has not been great this year, but some of the criticism and harsh words being branded to them on this thread is simply ridiculous and disrespectful after all they have done for this club

Nobody is being disrespectful to him or Carra. People are actually being very sensible about Stevie

Gerrard has been shortlisted for the fifpro world xi, 15 midfielders were nominated and only 3 will get picked. Was really surpirsed to hear but good for him!

Why sure he was Englands best player at the Euro's

    QFT.

There are a lot of young lads in the team now putting in poor performances and we can only hope one or two of them improve to the extent that Lucas did. When he came to Anfield he had already been captain of Brazil U-21 but in a red shirt he was muck. Rafa got a lot of stick for keeping him in the first 11.

Lucas was far from muck. Idiots just attached themselves to what eamon dunphy said about him being Latvian or whatever. I used it as a barometer to judge people's football knowledge.

And how exactly is that something which should warrant him getting short listed for the world XI?

I must disagree. Instead of seeing the value of both players on and off the pitch an awful lot of posters on here were very disrespectful and short sighted on both individuals.

How can you short list any player for the next world cup.

Wrong. Lucas was very poor when he first played for us. For the amount of stupid fouls he used to give away alone.

Dont let what he has become cloud what he first started out as.
