Do you say thanks to the driver upon disembarkation? Maybe it's me, but I find it absolutely cringe worthy when people alight from the bus and walk past the driver without acknowledging the driver. I make it my mission to say it every time I pass him.

It depends. I usually do, but if the driver comes across as surly, rude, arrogant, impatient etc then I probably wouldn't. I don't see why I should thank someone that can't exchange pleasantries in the same manner I would stepping onto the bus.

Back in the 60s/70s when we had conductors on Dublin's buses people couldn't say thank you to the driver (isolated in his cab), so I guess everybody said thanks to the conductor as they jumped off the rear platform, right? http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/417269d12f07404723ba1a377895924ccbce0207.jpg
