Greyscale display in W2K

When winXP offers you the choice to standby / turnoff / restart, it sets the background to greyscale. Is it possible to do this permanently in W2K? It's a lot easier on the eyes. I've messed around with display properties etc. I've also searched drivers.com without any luck. Thanks for any info
