Not all Santos fault though. Podolski didn't exactly help out, especially against Schalke. ( I didn't see the Norwich game)
Santos was poor, thats a given, but a lot of the time there was not much he could do. The defensive attitude from the team as a whole needs to change.

I agree with this. In fairness to Santos, yes he was poor, put he was given absolutely no protection from Podolski and then Gervinho in front of him. If you look at Schalke attacking down that side it was nearly always 2 v 1.

That's a fair point to make. I still think it doesn't excuse his Norwich performance which was also muck. It was mainly because of his inability to understand when it's worth taking a chance going forward and when he should stay back. I think he really messes up the shape of the back four, it never feels as a unit to me when he plays as positionally you never know what he is going to do.

Some nice strikes from Aaron in the clip, especially the one with his left foot. Haven't seen him take a decent strike in ages now...

I said it in the CL match thread, but I noticed in the Schalke match and in the Norwich match, that he never seems to push on anymore. It looks like he has been warned to not take people on, which is probably his best asset. There were a few occasions when it was pretty much a one on one and instead of pushing forward, he passed the ball backwards. It's a pity if I am right, because he would probably be someone who could put in a decent cross if he was given the chance.

I also noticed (once) in both games when Vermalen went forward, Santos seemed to come in towards the centre and tried to break up the play so we wouldn't get caught because Vermalen was missing. In both occasions, the play was then put out to Santos' wing so it looked like that he was at fault and was missing, where as in reality he was trying to cover for Vermalen.

You could have 10 Vermailens going forward but if we can't put in decent crosses then we aren't going to score. We need a lot of time training to do this -- crosses, corners and free-kicks.

I'd disagree with with you but out of interest why do you think that?

I really hope he doesn't start today because we need a result. Not worth it if he gets injured again.

I just have a feeling, a really good feeling.

I don't think there is a chance of him not being ready at this stage. He's played enough minutes for the 21's to show that he is over his injury.

edit - just looking through my twitter feed, a lot of people this morning hearing that he wasn't going to start. Then 11 minutes ago John Cross, the most reputable Arsenal journo ( imo ) tweets this.

    John Cross ‏@johncrossmirror

Hearing Jack Wilshere gonna start for #afc

yes 15 minutes today and then start him against Reading. Hopefully he'll then be in good shape to start against Man Utd.

Today is the day for all the under-performers recently to prove that they do deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt

I can see Jack and Sagna coming on today if we're winning by 2 or more. The team have to start their response now and stand up and be counted. The lack of leadership worried me though. We have no physical presence in the middle without Diaby so teams are bullying us. Good start needed today.

If it's true Wilshere is starting at least we'll have the heart back in the team.

Anything other than 3 points today is not acceptable.

Wilshire and Sagna both starting?! Amazing.

Big weak link with Santos though I think, and Ramsey has a lot to prove today. Apart from Gibbs, who are we missing from the first XI?

If anyone would be good enough to pm me a link to the match come kick off time it would be much appreciated :).

Sagna should hopefully put in some decent crosses which have been badly missing since his injury. Nobody on the other side putting anything dangerous in though.

You realise we're setting Santos up to score a brace :D

We might see Giroud getting a cross worthy of a header.

Jack starts his first senior game since May 2011. Nearly 18 months. Hope he shows no ill effects. That's a very long time.

    Good luck today Jack.
