Leg-Lengthening Surgery

A friend of mine sprang a surprise on me last week when he told me he's off to New Delhi to "make himself taller". I was completely caught off guard by this after he explained what it was.

Basically he's having a height-increasing procedure done where they break the bone in both of his limbs (one at a time) and pull it apart slowly in a process called "distraction", then the bone and muscle will eventually grow back.

I didn't think this act of playing God was possible but I checked the website out he showed me and I was astonished.

Here's the website if you're interested in this subject:

Just a few questions for you guys:

    1. What is your opinion of this extreme cosmetic surgery?

    2. Would you ever get this done if you were small?

    3. What height are you and are you secure/insecure about your height? (I'm 5' 11" for the record and I wish I was a neat-and-tidy 6' foot but I'm content with being over the average)

By the way, according to Wikipedia, the average height of an Irishman is: 1.775 m (5 ft 10 in) and the average height of an Irishwoman is: 1.635 m (5 ft 4 1⁄2 in).

You're made the way you are for a reason. Getting surgery on your legs can go very wrong. I'd never do it.

    I'm 6 foot 4 though. :)

Is that the same place that does the Negroplasty ? I really fancy being black :)

It's a bit extreme but if it's something he feels he needs to do to boost his self confidence then I wish him all the best.
It's really no different to a boob job or hair transplant. You just don't hear of it too often so that's why it seems a bit strange.

How short is your friend and how tall is he going to be.

    What reason is that?

Your ancestors' diets determine your height. Evolution can be a b!tch.

My opinion is that your friend is a dope.

    Leg lengthening?

    That's a bit of a tall order.

Yes it is. It's much more invasive and dangerous.

i would say its a lot different, nothing is being broken and expected to just grow back to normal in different positions with those 2

The long and the short of it is that was a poor effort.

I meant the reasoning behind it. It's a confidence issue.
Which is why I said its a bit extreme, as in the surgery itself, not the idea of cosmetic surgery.

No he isn't but Jocelyn Wildenstein, however...

No because gods don't exist but you said "for a reason" so why don't you enlighten us what this reason is?

    He's just pulling your leg.

While he's over there he might as well get ballarms.

Completely irrelevant to the nature of this post but for the record, he's 5' 4" and he'll be around 5' 8" after it's done.

If someone thinks surgically altering their legs, which are normal in the first place, is going to make them a new person then they are pretty thick and in for a surprise when they see that nothing changes and their confidence will be the same. He should have bought a nice pair of boots with a good heel, more stylish than leg braces and surgical scars and physio. What a ****ing stupid thing to read actually. Jesus. Anyone giving this lad the nod is an eejit.

I know someone who did this. Awful, long recovery time, horrific pain and extensive physiotherapy required afterwards. I think the result was an extra inch or two. :(

Pffftttt, the lenghts people will go to (no pun intended)

Although I do value the BMI index regarding weight/height ratio and I'm glad to say I'm now at my ideal weight. I just need to be 9 foot 4....... leg extensions here I come.....

It's got a much more gruelling recovery process, as near as I can tell, but is it actually more dangerous?

he should have bought a convertible instead

If he's a 28" leg, can I have his old trousers.

Was this the same guy who was on the Late Late show last year?? Costs a fortune. Felt sorry for the guy, good looking lad but I guess he feels his short stature keeps him back in life?

Would his gait, posture and balance be way off coz his lower limbs wouldn't be in proportion to his upper limbs and trunk??
