Can anyone identify this sound?

I seem to remember that if someone rang me while I was using dial-up, the call would simply be flat out rejected. They'd get an engaged tone and nothing else.

I got a missed call this evening from a number I don't know and when I try and call back I get this sound. It almost sound like a ring.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Its probably a fax machine you are ringing. Try googling the number.

Well your essentially ringing a modem, chances are its a fax of some sort. Somebody must have dialled you incorrectly and your voicemail picked up the attempted negotiation attempts.

    Wouldnt worry about it man.
