    Hi,

I've a triax tr112 saorview box and i'm having difficulty recording to my external hard drive. If i'm watching tv and press the record button on the remote i've no problem, but if I set a timer I get an error message "Not Valid Enter Recorder".

This is doing my head in and i'd appreciate any help, thanks.

    Hi pcmacroom,

Have you updated the firmware since you bought the box? If not, the latest version can be downloaded from the Triax website. It might resolve your issue.

    Hi Brian h,

Unfortunately had updated the firmware prior to my initial post......thanks anyway.

    Hi pcmacroom,

If the ext. HDD is formatted in FAT 16 or FAT 32, it would be better to format it to NTFS. Do the formatting via the TR112, rather than with the HDD connected to a computer.

    Hi Satnob,

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I Have tried both a fat32 and Ntfs format on the external hard drive and still no luck, still getting the same error message.

...but if I set a timer I get an error message "Not Valid Enter Recorder".

Try to program the recorder to turn on 1 min. before the channel is due to start.
Then add a 2nd. line that actually records the channel.
    eg.
No. Program Name Date Time Mode Type
    01 ----
    19/09/2012 14:59 Once On
    02 0004 TG4 19/09/2012 15:00~16:30 Once Recorder

Sorry, can't get the info. to line up!

    Software issue.

Get onto Triax and ask them to sort it out. These same issues go back years with the Metronic boxes, so its not as if it will be a big surprise to the OEM.

Have a TR112 on the latest firmware, Seagate 250GB bus powered USB drive, formatted FAT32, no problems with timer recordings. How are you setting them - pressing the green button twice in the EPG?

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

    Hey Ninja900,

I've tried to set the record two different ways..........by pressing the green button twice in the EPG and also by going in through the menu system......same error message both times.

My hard drive is a toshiba.

If you're watching TV and press Rec or Pause, what happens?

Have you got any content on the drive (recordings, or movie files from PC etc?) Can you browse the drive in Movies or Record Manager? Can you play any files?

Have you tried formatting the drive using the Triax box (rather than a PC) NB you will lose any data already on it.

Not all bus-powered drives work well with set-top boxes, some of them draw too much power, so it would be worth trying a mains-powered external hard disk (or a high speed USB stick) if you have one.

It could be that your box is faulty so if you can't get it working, return it to the retailer.

I believe there was an article about 6 weeks ago in the independent that on soar view you had to be watching the show to record it,maybe why timer ain't working there not dual tuners,,was reported as a bit of a boo boo on saorviews behalf

    I have a similar problem: TR112 won't record onto a Toshiba 500GB Canvio Basics 3.0 USB 2.0/3.0 HDD.
I suspected not enough current at HDD power-up but TR112 powers-up 1:16 before recording starts, so HDD OK unless powered down again
Same suspicion came to mind reading the above-quoted problem
I have tried recording onto a 32GB SanDisk Cruzer USB memory-stick. 4 recordings so far are OK.
But if a Seagate HDD works ( ninja900 ) and a Toshiba one doesn't, this would require experimentation, time & money.
My "work-around" is to record onto the SanDisk (reliable) and copy onto the Toshiba (space).
