    Hi,

Both of my lower wisdom teeth are impacted and my dentist & consultant are both aware of this and have said they will need to come out but not just yet. They do get a little achey from time to time, but usually settle down in a day or two.

I woke up on Sunday and the right one was a little sore, but as the day wore on I developed a little lump/blister in the gum behind and to the side of where the tooth it coming out. It's still there and getting a little bigger. It's not very painful only a little :D

Can anyone tell me if this means it might be infected? I've only just seem my dentist a couple of weeks ago for my check-up and if this doesn't settle in a day or two I'll head out to see him again. Anything I should be doing in the meantime to help it settle?

    Possibly infected alright...
Any reason for the delay in removing the teeth if it is known that they are impacted and causing/ likely to cause infection?? What type of consultant are you seeing? Is this part of other treatment you are receiving and thats why there is a wait?

I guess they haven't really caused me any problems so far. I've been seeing a maxfax in James's for the last couple of years for TMJ problems and I had an eminectomy in June. I'm not sure if that has an effect on whether they want to take them out or not. My understanding is that they're not far enough up yet??? although I could be completely wrong.

They were probably just reluctant to tackle the wisdom teeth while you had an ongoing problem with the TMJ. Discuss it again with them, they need to be sure that it is the wisdom teeth that are the problem and not the TMJ again....
    Prof LS in St James's??

    Yes - he's been great.
    and not the TMJ again....

Oh I REALLY hope not! The results of the surgery have been soooo good, so far anyway. Thanks for the advice.

You're probably right as there is a small "gumboil" but have it checked.

    Good luck,

    infectedagain.com :(

Can't believe it's come back again so quickly! I was hoping to put off another surgery for a bit, but I guess that's not going to happen? I've been cleaning my teeth like a mad yoke for the last few weeks - anyone any tips (bar brushing/flossing/mouthwash - all of which I am doing lots of!) on what I can do to keep them infection free while I'm waiting to have them out?
