Awh girls what lovely stories its so lovely to read them i've actually read them twice over :)

I live by the motto "what is meant to be will be" and "everything happens for a reason" I remember 3 years ago i was due to go to Dubai for a holiday for my my friends birthday. I was liven for it, the week before i was due to go i got mumps, i was due to fly on the friday and on the thursday the doc said i could go if i felt up to it, but i said i wouldnt go as i didnt want to ruin anyone elses holiday if they had to look after me, I was so down in myself and i remember my OH saying to me Elly everything happens for a reason we might not know the reason now and we might never know but trust me everything happens for a reason. Two days later i ended up in isolation with meningitis as a result of the mumps! Doctors told me i was a very lucky girl that i didnt go on the trip because i would have come home in a box! This is why i believe everything happens for a reason!! :)

Annettea - 15th March has no significance at all only we are getting married in NY and not having a formal reception or anything and whoever wants to go is more than welcome as it is Paddys weekend and people wont only be coming for the wedding they will have other distractions and we will only be the main attraction for a couple of hours :) OH has a friend that owns a couple of Irish Bars so we will organise finger food and that and it will just be very informal no set times on anything other than the ceremony of course and that only takes about 15mins :) There will be a great atmosphere around the weekend, We're gonna come home then and have a big shindig for everyone as we both have big family's and a huge circle of friends so we cant afford to do it here!

I always think things work out in the end.. Well when i got let go from work and than found out i was pregnant i kind of know what the reason was there, the stress of that place was unreal, especially from the boss , and i dont think i really needed that, also i remember one of he kids kicked me right in the stomaxch ,, soo maybe i shouldnt of been working there haha xx awwh it'd be so nice to get married over in NY and sounds like you'll have a greaty party in both places :) isounds like fun xx

    Morning March-Mammies-to-be!
Love reading ye're stories! I'm a bit slow to tell our conception story cos it was all a bit simple! Just kinda happened.....
On the way to the hospital this morning.... Does anyone else feel a bit like me-you are going along grand, day in, day out and then all of a sudden you have to go to the hospital (albeit for a routine appointment).... I just think it feels kinda wrong! I'm fine! Why am I going to a hospital? I can totally understand why women choose to have home births! Now I'm not saying I'd manage it at all-love my comforts and drugs and all that, but I do feel like I am being overly medicalised or something?
Maybe I'm mad! Not overly impressed by the hospital either, so we'll see how today goes, but so far a WHOLE lot of money for an only very average service!
Am I just the biggest moan bag ever?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭elly123

    Happy Friday Ladies :)

Wicklori you have every right to moan if you are paying good money for a service that you are not entirely happy with! I know i would be moaning too!
How often are your appointments? I've only had two check ups one booking in appt and one consultant appointment and at both i was a nervous wreck! Everything was fine but i just get so panicky and nervous when im there. My consultant appt was 3 weeks ago and my next one is in 11 weeks time, my gp appt is in 3 weeks, big scan in 5 weeks and then an another gp appt 2 weeks after that.

I know it is probably to late but is it possible for you to look into a dominoe scheme or a midwife led clinic if your not happy or comfortable with the hospital?

A lot happier now thankfully!!! This morning went really well, this was my third consultant appt and ive been to the midwife once (whom I really didn't enjoy at all....)
Consultant did a little scan this morning and there was babs-in the cocktail position, kicking back-little wave :-)
I'm too far fromt he hospital for domino-otherwise would have been great plan.... I was definitely thinking of changing hospital earlier though... was not a happy bunny, but this appointment I was happier with.

    Thank you Elly!

I have put a pic of bump (actually my tummy) now everyone knows... And everyone is saying m really big.. Exciting now i just hope everyything turns out okay..
I can see why hospital appointments are stressful ,, im just scared that they have something bad to tell me or that something will come up in the bloods, but thats what its all about worry welcome to parenthood hahaha.. Are youu glad wicklori that its all over? And everything is okay?? How far are you now??
Elly 5 more weeks and u have the big scan eek.. Willl you be finding out if its a boy or a girl??

Hi Annetta, According to today at consultant I am 18w and 1 day, according to me I am 17 weeks and 5 days, so take your pick :) I think it's just a slightly bigger baby as I am fairly definite of my dates ;)

I know what you mean about wondering what the blood tests and everything are going to say-it's all a bit of a mystery isn't it!

We have our big scan on 13th nov which is a bit on the late side, but the earliest we could negotiate between everything! I have a stupid lump on my side which is totally harmless but needs to get cut off nonetheless and that is in the middle of the right time :( so it'll be 5 and a half more weeks. I particularly want the surprise and have beaten my husband into submission on the subject so we won't be finding out the gender :D:D
My birthday on tuesday and I have mon and tues off so roll on 7pm when I am finished :):)

Hi girls, I'm back and just trying to catch up on all your stories! Things have moved on a lot in a week!!! Those who had apps and scans, I hope they all went well :)

We just came back from hols today. I found all the walking quiet hard and had that restless leg syndrome at night which is really irritating! I'm 18 weeks today and the belly has totally popped! Although I haven't put on much weight on the scales, I have visibly put on a lot :( felt a bit crap on hols....ah well it's all worth it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 299 ✭✭annettea

wicklori happy early birthday :) any idea what your doing? Sleep haha.. Nearly 18 weeks the time does fly :) sometimes id wish it slow down a bit than other times i want it to be march :) do you have an idea on what your having?? Awwwhh sounds like your OH is totally excited!! I hope everything will be okay with the removal and thank god its nothing serious :)
Does everyone talk to there bumps?? They can hear you now ahhh its so cute..
Yellow hen your back! How are you? Jetlagged? Did u have fun?? Maybe with all the high altitude your belly popped :) congrats on 18 weeks, 2 more weeks till your half way there haha xx.
Well 2nd trimester is doing me the world as good, i can stay up till about 10 or half 10 at night, my rash on the face has finally nearly gone, dunno if its from the facial or just pregnancy ha and this might sound disgusting but i think i had mild thrush in my mouth well for the 1st trimester anyway and now its gone :) also i have a cute little bump hopefully it will stay neat :) x

It's been quiet around here lately! How are you all doing? I'm 18.5 weeks and desperately waiting to feel the baby move
but nothing yet. What about you guys? Anyone on their first baby?

Starting my pregnancy yoga on Thursday eve and really looking forward to it. I am finding it hard o walk these days, my legs just ache and I can see the dreaded varicose veins appearing on my right thigh!!

Hey Yellow Hen, I also eat a lot now :) But really happy with that, much better than feeling sick, and I can enjoy a dinner with friends :)
I find yoga difficult. And it's just stretches and breathing, haha, can't believe I was running races just 6 months ego!
It's hard to walk uphill (our house is on a hill and I walk really slowly not to get out of breath)
Ah hope your veins will be fine - is there any cream that can help? I use aloe vera cream every day on my belly and boobs - they are so itchy, probably because they are stretching now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭elly123

Morning Ladies, welcome back Yellow Hen :) The weeks seem to be flying for you, Let us know how the yoga goes. I still haven't started pilates yet maybe next week! Im going back to the gym 2moro just to walk and cycle. I was out with OH and dog on Sat morning and couldn't believe i was struggling to keep up felt so unfit!

YH - i think i may have got the restless leg syndrome last night, it didnt last too long but just even sitting on the couch was uncomfortable i actually had to lie down with legs out straight very weird, first night ive ever felt like that but thankfully only lasted about 15 mins then i was fine.

My veins are defo more clear and im getting loads of little bluey/purple treads around my knees and thighs not noticeable to anyone else but i can see them, ive just been using the stretch mark cream on them cant say i notice a difference. YH id say you can only notice the veins due to all the walking on hols, hopefully with plenty of leg rest they may go down.

Hi Lilbe, just read my last post. I had meant to say 'waiting on the baby to move' rather than 'eating for baby to move' ...I'm using my phone and the corrective text is terrible!!

I'm excited but a little scared at the thoughts of Pilates but I really am stacking on the pounds now and also seem to get backache every night so it can't do me any harm! I counted down last night and taking in my Christmas break and a weeks leave I have left, I now only have 16 weeks left at work!!!

Not done back at hospital until the 1st November for 22wk scan but that'll fly I guess.

hi everyone how are you? bumps? :)
What can you do about vericose veins? i know my mum has them so i hope i dont get them eek.. would walks help or elevated leg rest help?
yellow hen- Pilates sounds good and maybe will help with the muscles. Have you gone to an ante natal class? or has anyone booked there classes? i still have to.. baby will be moving soon, I was reading a pregnancy book and basically it says if your gonna be doing the deed and the baby kicks it says for the OH to hold the bump till the baby stops..im sorry but if that happened i totally know i wouldnt be able to go on with it ..
Lilbe i know what you mean about the boobs and tummy being itchy.. :)
I dont know what creams to use? im using e45, aquaeous cream and i have a coconut cream as well.. im noticing my skin to be very dry ..
I start work tomorrow and im really scared cos i want to hide bump for at least 2 weeks and i dont think i can, i think alot of it is fat aswell :( i need to lose weight but i cant stop eating haha.. too scared to look at the scales..
    Is this everyone's first baby?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭elly123

Hey Annettea, As far as i know standing and been on your feet alot can cause the veins to become more noticeable so elevated leg rest is probably the best thing for them especially if they were causing aches.
I havent even looked into ante natal classes i think on the leaflet i got they say to ring when your a certain amount of weeks and it was well into the 20s if i remember correctly.

Best of luck with your first day hope it goes well for you x
You might aswel enjoy the eating now and dont attempt to try and lose weight as it is not good for you or the baby. I'd imagine you will be very surprised if you stood on the scales i bet you only put on a few lbs, a lot less than you think. I weigh myself once a week and ive only put on 3lbs and i felt huge at the weekend and was shocked to see all i gained was 3lbs. My appetite is not great at all tho i have to say and im eating for the sake of it! Gone off chocolate, gone off mcdonalds (which is all i could eat the first few weeks) no appetite for any type of take away at all. I am loving mash and veg a bit of stew but thats about it. I absolutely love fish and i havent really touched fish since i got pregnant, but im going to have to start eating it again as i read a study yesterday saying that two portions of fish a week can help reduce the chance of ADHD in your child by up to 60%!

Even before i was pregnant i go through stages of having a great appetite and then no appetite and sometimes taughts of certain foods that i love make me sick its very strange. ive always said i'll get an intolerance test done to see if its something im eating which causes it but never got around to it!

Jesus before i got pregnant i had great intentions of been really active if i was ever pregnant but my god little did i know id have very little energy to do anything!

Anyone got anything nice planned for the weekend?

Me too!!! In the end I think I was at my heaviest weight. At 19 weeks now I too have put on about 3lbs but any muscle I had has turned to flab and my tum and bum are huge :(

Re antenatal classes, the Coombe told me to book ASAP as they can fill up. I got about 4 different day/time choices so I picked a midweek class which starts at 24weeks for a further 5 weeks. Looking forward to Pilates tonight, will let you know how it goes.

Oh yeah saw that study too! Smoked salmon was one thing which I loved before pregnancy and which I was able to eat in the first two months, too! And love it still :)

Hi lilbe,my midwife told me to avoid all smoked fish and meat during pregnancy,i'm not sure why exactly and didn't ask,I love it myself but will have to do without it for the next few months:(

I asked my consultant specifically what I can and can't eat, he said that I can eat anything. I even specified, if I can eat a steak cooked medium rare, and he said yes.
I guess each doctor has his own point of view :)

When you say smoked salmon are you talking about the smoked salmon that you can put on crackers and and have with salads like the raw smoked salmon? I love this but haven't touched it because like meggysmom i've read and been told not to eat smoked fish or any raw fish. The only fish im eating is prawns but i make sure they are well washed & cooked! I did have smoked coley at about 9 weeks and i was sick two or three days later so i put it down to that.

YH - I must have a look at the leaflet i got, because i do want to do them and i'd imagine it would be full quite soon considering i already personally know 7 people due around mid march!

    Hey girls,

Yes, I mean smoked salmon :)
Googled smoked salmon and pregnancy, and it says that in some countries they recommend not to eat it, as there is a risk of getting some bacteria from it. However in other countries they say that pre-packed salmon from a shop is perfectly safe. I guess it's just a difference in opinions, as well as food safety standards. Did not find anything on Irish websites, but NHS in UK says this:

"You can eat smoked fish, such as smoked salmon, and cooked cold meats when you’re pregnant.

Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk that the food may contain listeria bacteria. In the UK, pregnant women are not advised to avoid these foods because the risk of infection is so low. However, if you’re concerned, you may choose to avoid them."

    Here is a link: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/eating-smoked-fish-and-cold-meats-during-pregnancy.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=216

So I will stick with my consultant's opinion that I can eat it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭elly123

Thanks for that Lilbe, thats interesting to know!

I suppose it boils down to the individual really. I think i will be buying some smoked salmon this evening yummmmmm :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭Lilbe

Hey Elly, yes, I think it's all very individually and the best thing is to ask your doctor if it's safe for you. What's safe for one person might be harmful for another.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,047 ✭✭✭yellow hen

So I did the prenatal Pilates last night. I don't know what I was expecting but I thought it was tough enough. My legs are v achy today. I'll def keep it up and might buy a ball so I can do some more practice at home.

Re the varicose vein; it has retreated a bit, it's now just a yucky blue vein but not protruding at least! Will have up try harder to get out and walk a bit! How are you all doing today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭elly123

Hey YH good to hear about the pilates, id imagine the pilates will get easier, you will prob be even more achy tomoro but that's a good sign it means you worked those muscles :)

I have the blue veins all over but not protruding, id say the flight and all the walking and been on your feet while in the big apple was the cause of the protruding vein. I would have taught less walking would help with the veins maybe im wrong! My dad had really bad protruding varicose veins on both legs and had them removed a few years back and i have the his legs so im hoping as the pregnancy progresses the V-veins will stay at bay!! :)

I was looking at my body this morning after my shower as i was applying the stretch mark cream and just looking at how much it has changed, bigger boobs and belly popped with slightly wider hips but i love it, i just smiled and taught why was i so body concious before been pregnant when i was so much slimmer and why was I constantly trying to get the perfect body (which i don't think exists in the real world)

I am on my third bottle of palmers stretch mark cream already at 17 weeks!! Thank god its only €5 a bottle! :)

Hello girls!!! We are starting to creak a little aren't we?
I'm getting bigger!!!! Husband is fascinated-reckons I really look pregnant now-he's hilarious!
Ended up at the dotor the other day-thought I was getting a chest infection cos I was breathless. she had a bit of a freak out cos she said breathlessness could mean a blood clot! But we came to the conclusion it wasn't..... So keep an eye out for that one too ladies-as if we hadn't enough to worrry about!
I'm a big fan of Pilates as you all know, so yellow hen I reckon you will notice the difference. You will feel stronger all through your core into your lower back. Apparently, according to those in the know, it also helps in the bedroom department..... ;) All I know is-no back ache for me yet and I'm over 19 weeks. TOUCH WOOD!
Had a big birthday during the week girls-34.... Feeling a bit over the hill for baby 1!

    Happy birthday Wicklori!
Ah come on, Victoria Bekham is 38 and there are rumours that she is pregnant again! So plenty of time for babies number 2 and 3 :)

since you said something about the bedroom bit its getting a bit awkward with OH on top :) haha it feels like his squashing my tummy.. anyone else?
you know the whole thing what you can and cant eat, i think every doctor is different. like my doctor said i could drink like a glass of wine at dinner :) but some doctors are totally against it.and to have that cup of coffee if wanted. like I said before were not supposed to eat rare steak but as lilbe said her doctor said it was fine..like my midwife asked me was I eating red meat and I thought thats meant to be brilliant you know for the iron and all that and she was like maybe you should cut down on the red meat but I havent cause I think its good for you.. I think just stay away from sushi and raw chicken ;) and we shall be graaand :)
guys i started work and thank god!! ive something to do and next week ive full days and no one suspects about bump.. think ill tell them around halloween :) xx
friends were up and they were well dissapointed they were like i thought you would be fat and i was like i am haha.. not fat enough apparently.. :) and thank you elly for your comment felt better but still to scared to go on the scales :) its actually sinking in that im pregnant and going to have a baby :)

Hey ladies, have any of you started to think about baby names? I know it's plenty of time still and the preferences will change 10,000 times, but do you know if you would go with a traditional name or with something rare or may be something completely unusual?

We have loosely thought about names. We have two traditional but lesser used irish names in mind. The boys name in particular is a bit different so I think we need to discuss it a bit more. I almost definitely want an irish name though.
