Kilcoyne is in London at the moment anyways. I would rate him ahead of Jason Doherty and Freeman in fairness.
Were there any standouts on the Ballaghadereen side? Great performance to make the county final without the best player in the county.

True Kilcoyne would be a good man to get onto the panel if possible. He always struck me as a fella with a lot of natural talent (perhaps more than some of our current forward stock) who never fully bought into the requirements of intercounty football.

If Horan got him to commit to the same level of intensity as the other lads. And he got the same level of looking after that Barry Moran did last year, medically wise he would be a good addition.

It looks as though the issues will be resolved:

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/mayo-to-back-down-over-horans-demands-3255549.html
The Mayo County Board are very confident that any lingering logistical issues with senior football manager James Horan can be resolved quite quickly.

Ahead of the first planned meeting between Horan and senior county board officers, Mayo spokesman Aiden McLoughlin said that all problems could be surmounted.

He said the board fully expected Horan to see out his three-year term and revealed that the manager was already planning for 2013, despite a suggestion that he could quit if some items weren't resolved. Among the issues Horan was understood to be bringing to last night's meeting were the training facilities, the use of McHale Park and the choice of hotels in Dublin on the eve of matches in the capital this summer.

Probably should have told Ballagh that if you didn't this cropping up :o

Seriously lads, you are the ones reaping the benefits of a club getting Roscommon County Council grants and all the players of a club verifiably in Roscommon being eligible to play for Mayo and Mayo only - the room for your sensitives on this issue are lost on me and indeed most everyone else.

    Fin.

    Are you Antoine from Eurotrash?

4 home matches in next years league.

I think we should be good for a playoff berth with a bit of luck.

7 points from 7 games was enough for Mayo this year.

I saw James Horan at the intermediate final on Sunday. I would expect that Tom Parsons and Tony Mulligan will get a call from him shortly. Mulligan had an unbelievable game and is the finest full forward in the county when he's on form.

But does Mulligan have the commitment/desire to play County football? He is very talented but I'm pretty sure he has had chances before. Would love to see Parsons apply himself more, he has huge natural ability.

I wonder which team has the bigger loss this Sunday, Cillian O'Connor (Ballintubber) or Andy Moran (Ballaghaderreen)?

I hear James Horan has made a very shrewd appointment as trainer. Certainly won't be drop in standards from this year I would think.

Is it Barry Solan, as was mentioned a few weeks ago ?

He has previously worked with Kaite Taylor and the Polish soccer team.

No I'm pretty sure it's some whizz from the Kerry backroom team. Donie Buckley.

Perhaps people are getting their Horan's mixed up

According to the Limerick Leader, Buckley is off to Limerick to join Maurice Horan's team

But the Independent has been reporting that James Horan is after him

Yeah I had heard that Buckley was the man Horan wanted. But Barry Solan would be good too.

I'm heading down for the county final on Sunday. Anyone got any inside info on what to expect?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭davegrohl48

Well just based on seeing the two teams the last few years I would say Ballaghadereen to attempt to outmuscle Ballintubber around the middle. I expect Ballaghadereen to win as they can win the kickouts and breaks. Overall I think they're the stronger side.

Going on other years a Low scoring defensive game would be expected. McHale park is too big for these club games the atmosphere is lost.

Have a feeling for Ballagh.. think they will do it!

Three in a row is very difficult!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,839 ✭✭✭Always_Running

Dreadful Mayo final, Ballagh the best side eventhough the final scoreline flattered them. Once Dillon went off injured Ballintubber had no one to score and O'Connor was a far bigger loss than Andy Moran was.

I think the goal only put a proper reflection of the game on the scoreline. Ballagh dropped at least two easy points short into the keeper's hands and fluffed a couple of goal-mouth chances as well.

Not one for the ages but people would do well to remember Ballagh didn't make the Mayo final by random luck - they've more than enough to deal with Curry and would have home advantage against Brigids were they to see off Melvin Gaels and Salthill.

To answer my own question..Cillian O'Connor. Have watched alot of games this year and that Mayo final was the worst.

    Good shout there.

Was at the game myself today, Ballagh done their hard work in the first twenty after which they seemed to drop back a gear. O'Connor was badly missed by Tubber. The county players didn't seem to show at all save for Geraghty. Both sides were incredibly wasteful which was surprising as conditions were as good as they could be for this time of year. Tubber never looked threatening up front but really didn't expect them to come away with only one score in the second half.

Overall a poor game but Ballagh but did look fit and strong and will certainly challenge for Connacht.

If they play like they did today they really will be blown away by Bridgets or Salthill. Even Curry would fancy their chances next week
