Aye but 1080p is a must for me, would coupling the Processor with a decent GPU such as the one listed not enable me to play BF3 at 1080p with high-ultra settings?
    E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTfV2UuftTc
Or is that just because of the i5 he has in there with the GPU?

If BF3 at 1920x1080 is a must, then forget about Trinity. You'd be better off with a more powerful graphics card.

    Item|Price
    8GB-Kit G-Skill RipJaws PC3-12800U CL9|€33.59
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€71.04
    LiteOn iHAS122-18 schwarz SATA|€17.55
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch|€88.90
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€43.18
    BitFenix Merc Beta|€32.07
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Box, Sockel AM3|€86.26
    HIS HD 7850 GDDR5 1024MB DVI/HDMI/2xMini DP|€167.54
    ASRock 970 Extreme3, AM3+, ATX|€72.44
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€631.56

That's trying to keep the budget low. You could scrap a few more euro by getting the German Windows and using it with an English disc.

I don't need windows any more, (Have a disc) so That doesn't need to be included in the budget, however everyhting else in my list does.

I just specd out a build but it ended up exactly like monotype's one so there's no point posting it, go for that it'd be your best option

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I've settled on what i'll get pretty much now, but because my purchase can wait a little while longer I might wait and see what the reviews for the piledriver are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

I doubt we'll see anything very amazing from AMD with piledriver. Probably much the same as Trinity without the integrated graphics and with more cores. However, what price they'll sell is what will be much more interesting.

I heard launch prices are the same as Bulldozer when that was released. I hope not, I sincerely doubt the 8350 (8150 successor) is going to be near the 3570k in gaming.

Hopefully the 4310 is a good overclocker, we might be able to recommend it instead of the aging 965. That thing came out 3 years ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Ugh! One of the reasons Bulldozer was so unattractive was the price. Why would you buy it when you can have a 2500K which can be overclocked till the cows come home? Against a 2500, sure it seemed half decent when you don't have to compete with overclocking and the extra cores can be occasionally useful for something. It's only now with the 8120 that's competing against the i3s and low i5s that it makes it a formidable opponent.

I was looking at this card but the configurator won't let me choose it, is there compatability issues?

    Thanks/.

The 7850 is a fair oul' bit weaker than the 7850.

It's not a bad card by any means, but other cards have shifted downwards while that's stayed the same price because it's last generation.

Don't bother with the configurator if you want them to build it, just add this to your card.
    http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=746&agid=829

It would be a good idea to post up your final cart before you buy just to sure that all is well. Don't buy a keyboard from there.

Edit: Ah, keyboard has been mentioned in post #2.

Thank you for your input though.

yea sorry just realized u have a good graphics card in the build :)

That's a crap PSU. You're better off with the 450W amazon.

What about homeplugs instead of wireless?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA211KIT-200Mbps-Powerline-Ethernet/dp/B004INVKP4/

They're much better for a consistent connection, which is favourable for gaming.

I'm not so fond of that CPU for the money. I mean, look the FX-6300 is €7.55 more. I would either go up to a 6300 or even 8320 or instead, go down to something like a phenom 945, overclock it as far as possible (3.8GHz should be possible) and upgrade in about a year. This would give more money for homeplugs etc.

Ok, so I got the Pc today, I have everything in which I said I would, including the 450W PSU and the 6300, but the only problem is she is BSOD'ing every time I try to install windows.
It'll say 'opening files' and get to the 'starting windows screen' but then it Bsods with multiple errors.
I have a Legit copy of windows I got for free because I'm in Engineers Ireland :) I downloaded it and burned it to a cd using the application microsoft provide.

I've tried loading defaults on the BIOS etc. but I just can;t get it to work :(
    Any help would be appriciated.

Try different cables for your hard drive.
Make sure the RAM is properly in (could be a bad stick too).
Try downloading another Windows copy and don't forget to hashcheck it (see guide in signature).

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭areyawell

I think its a ram error. Remove the Ram and stick it back in the PC and retry.

If you have two sticks of ram remove one and retry. If still blue screening put in the one you took out and remove the other one.

Did you burn the windows cd on low burning speed? usually when you burn it on fast settings it always give errors.

Try downloading Ubuntu or backtrack and see if that will install.

Really sounds like a bad stick of ram

Well, I'd prefer not to void my warrenty my poking at any parts of the PC, i didn't build it, they did...

I did a hash check and it said 1 file hashed, I'm out of DVD's though... and I can;t find my USB stick lol.
I'll try writing it at a low speed and hashchecking it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,980 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

You could also run Memtest86+ to check the ram
If that fails then there is a hardware fault for sure.
You would need a cd or usb boot though.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭areyawell

Opening your PC will not void the warranty from hardware versand. There 3 year gauruntee is on parts not the PC itself

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 878 ✭✭✭c28omzk7ihsxv0

I opened up the case and took out the ram and put it back in again, it's definitely in right ( I have one stick) but it's still not working. I'm going to put the hashchecked version of windows onto a usb and see if that works.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 878 ✭✭✭c28omzk7ihsxv0

Aye, I did the check sums etc. again and it still doesn't work.
It won;t let me download it again, so I am installing a copy of windows I 'sourced' from somewhere else now and it seems to be installing fine. We'll wait and see...
