What Tools To Get?

    Sorry if this isn't the right place but I couldn't think of another and a lot of folks here have their own setups done.

    I want to be able to make my own satellite cables (both twist and "normal" TV connectors) and want to get the crimp tool as well as the connectors * cable, ideally I'd like to get a Radionics part number http://radionics.rs-online.com/web/

    Satellite connectors are 'F connectors' and can be twisted on easily. (You don't need to use the compression ones).

    'Normal' coax connectors can also be assembled by hand. (although I prefer F-connectors with a coaxial to f-connector adaptor).

    The twist-on connectors require weather proofing, in the form of self-amalgamating tape.

    There are also compression (as opposed to crimp) fittings. These are supposedly easier to fit than the crimp type & don't need the extra weatherproofing of the twist type. You do need a fitting tool however.

    Just to second what Salteedog says.
    No need for crimping/compression tools for coax at all.
    Easily done by hand, and with some amalgamating tape and silicon grease everything becomes extremely weather tight.

    Also as an aside Clareman, I have a load of screw on type F connectors laying around if you need some.
    As far as I recall you are fairly close by to me so if you want to drop me a PM and take some to get yourself started feel free.

    Thanks Banie, I'm in Ennis, a friend of my is an electrician and is getting the stuff for me, he gets the stuff if I tell him what to get :)

    Don't forget the self-install type. No special tools needed, although extra waterproofing is recommended.
