Pros and Cons of doing 3 Leaving Cert Sciences?

    Hi,
I'm currently one month into 5th year and have decided to keep on French, Biology, Chemistry and Physics alongside the core subjects, all at higher level. Many of my friends have warned me of this becoming a big workload this time next year, but I got on well at my Junior Cert and am quite good at memorizing info from the first time I hear it in class. Also, I have always enjoyed Science. I am curious to find out if doing the three Sciences alongside Higher Maths is doable, and, if so, will it have many benefits later on, regarding courses, careers, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

Well there is a bit of overlap which is always good, and i was always so jealous of people who are good at science , if your good at science that is 3 good subjects already i definitely see it as a good thing, depends what you want to do , if you want do do anything in science i don't see why you would pick another subject over doing the 3 science

I did HL maths, chem, biology and physics. Its fine. Tbh, they were the best classes of my day when i was in school (something to look forward to!). There is certainly plenty of overlap between them which helps. I did my LC a few years ago now, but I got 3 A1's and one A2 in those 4 subjects (should have been 4 A1's  . Don't mind what people say to you, as it may be uncommon in your school, but is not THAT uncommon nationwide. Probably the easiest A's in my opinion

Your lucky you can do them. I wanted to but my school could either do chemistry or physics due to lack of teachers :( so instead I do biology chemistry and business.

I did the 3 sciences and ag science, so 4. It was great I actually enjoyed studying and got a heap of points at the end.

Even shorter answer = THERE ARE NO CONS.

It's grand, I don't really know why people are like "ooooh 3 sciences omg." If you like science and prefer understanding concepts to rote learning, the sciences will really suit you. I'm studying engineering now and I'm extremely glad I did physics and chemistry, I think I would be a bit lost without them. In other words it's very very helpful at third level to have done them, if you're interested in studying anything sciencey.

Biology isn't much good to me now but I loved it and for me it was a not-too-difficult A1, biology class was great too. It's good to have subjects you look forward to going to, makes school somewhat tolerable.

Ah right thanks guys I was just curious as to whether I made the right choice or not, but confident now! :D

Also, would I be able to apply these subjects to business in the future, ie product or software development?

advantage doing the 3 subject sciences - They may overlap with one another, so may be a little similar content making it that bit easier on you.

disadvantage - restricting the college courses you can take. for example if you decided in 6th year, instead of doing a science related course you want to do a business course for example, one of the business subjects may have to be needed to enter some universities (for a business course). and also those 3 science subjects would have been a waste of studying. (like a lot of subjects for LC)

btw, if you want to do a science course, you only ever need 1, max 2, science subjects to get into that course. But if you like the science subjects and are sure you wish to pursue a career in something scienc-y go ahead and do the 3, would be perfect for you. :)

Yeah I see your point but the Uni I'm looking at only requires a language, so I've got that covered. Also, Accounting was the only business subject running in my school and I didn't really want to do that (would have done Business itself though). But yeah I'm pretty confident that I'd like to go into Science, just not sure which field at the minute. Stuck between Pharmaceuticals and Computers?

Thanks for the advice though! :)
