    What's the point exactly?

Is it just that being unbeaten is worth shag all?

In and of itself being unbeaten means absolutely nothing. Comparing our defence and results to the first few matches of last season is a false comparison. Hopefully we can push on but I'm not convinced that we're in a position to achieve an awful lot more than we did last season.

Of course being unbeaten means nothing.

If you are talking about achieving solely in terms of trophies, then we're probably not going to be that different from last season. I think we'll definatly get more wins, more points and really challenge for more trophies though. Also, with everyone being new at the club, there's a sense that the revolving door may shut at the Emirates and this is cause for optimism.

Aside from that, comparing the opening to the last two seasons is totally valid. Last season we had lost Fab and Nasri and had new players to settle in, this year we've lost RVP and Song and have new players to settle in, including Diaby who really hasn't played with anyone in the first team.

I appreciate the point you make about having a settled back four but surely that's part of the comparison and why we're so much happier about things this season. We're solid because all the defenders have been at the club for a mimimum of a year and are used to each other. We're solid because we're defending as a unit. How can we not compare that?? Also FWIW 3 of our first choice back five were out today.

it's good to have someone verging from realism to pessimism posting when things are going so well - difficult gig but you're doing a good job.

Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism and things are looking up a bit but if Chelsea keep their heads right then it'll be 4th rather than 3rd we'll probably end up going for this season.

It was the changes rather than just the number of players missing per match that was the issue IMO. Today was the first change to the back 4 we're had to make this season.

Being happy about not having to chop and change because of injuries is something to be happy about but not to the point of thinking it's going to mark a turnaround for the club. We look better than at the same point last season but if we looked worse there'd be some proper issues at the club that needed to be looked at.

I'm not Mert's no 1 fan but he was outstanding today. His positioning was superb. How many times was he in exactly the right place to block or intercept. ? Much more confident in his capabilities than I was last season. I honestly don't know which 2 players at centre back are our strongest at the moment.

I'll say it again, Mertesacker is the most important player in our back 4.

I'd be equally happy with any 2 of the 3 forming the central partnership at the moment.

Good result, good performance a lot of positives and fans can have plenty of optimism - the chelsea will be a real indicator how our season will go.

Can I ask why the Chelsea game will be the real indicator???

+1 - Surely it will be another one to add to the 6 we've already had this season

Well a better indicator i really meant, and its to see how we get on against one of the big teams. That said i am not saying a win against chelsea means we'll win the league, just we know how good we are.

But today we played the champions in there own patch that should be a better indicator than Chelsea at home

We've played Liverpool and City. The former are always expected to be around the top six while the latter are champions. Chelsea finished fifth last season, not far ahead of Liverpool but quite a bit behind City. Considering how we've fared against those two, Chelsea alone wont be an indication of anything. Today's game was our best indication of where we are until we play United.

I meant the two games as whole but chelsea are in better form and on top of this years league table.

If todays game is enough for you then fair play

Today's game is not enough it's what I seem this season so far
If Chelsea beats us next week will you think we're crap

Well im fairly happy with their performance today and took alot of positives. There was some good individual performances like Arteta and Cazorla. I was also very impressed with gibbs and Carl Jenkinson. He has really improved looks alot stronger on the ball than last year and played some good football today against the champions.
Only disappointment for me personally was our defending for the goal. Even though i cant stick most of the sky commentators they had apoint today with their comments about our defending of set pieces. Zonal marking i think was what they were saying as our players didnt get close enough to the man city players. Lescotts goal could of being avoided imo.
Overall im excited about our prospects and think we will do well this season.

I'm not changing what you say
Just think today was a bigger indicator than next week
If we loose next week I'm still confident in the team

I actually agree with you in the sense that the game against Chelsea would be a key indicator of the teams's character and determination for this season.

I watched todays match and if we play with the same level of discipline in the defense and midfield, it is very unlikely we wont get a point out of the match. Chelsea's defense is alright but I think we have a better midfield and more attacking options and we have to remember we are playing at home, I wont be surprised if we take the three points. Personally I will be happy with a draw.

I think what he's trying to say is if we play well against Chelsea next week like we have done today against city it would show we are consistently good against top teams with this new set up. Which is a fair enough point.

We've done great so far but it would be brilliant to consolidate the belief that we are a title challenging side by doing a number on Chelsea at home next week.

I'm just back from Croke Park aftertb watching another rubbish final and am a bit pissed but i can't wait for Match of the Day to see the performance. I predictedr a draw yesterday and am happy we got one and didn't lose. I couldn't even get a commentary aty the match as there was no signal or it was blocked ouit. I will watch the highlights and give opinions tomorrow. BUT whatever happened a point is a good result andf i would have taken it before the match.#Well done Arsenal !!!
