Eye Cinema or Omniplex?

Having been away for a while I haven't been to the cinema in Galway in ages.

So was wondering what is the general consensus, which is the better cinema, comfort, food etc?!

I prefer the omni comfort wise myself, that said, the eye is across the road from me so I end up there more often.

quality and comport-wise, it's the eye. I always find it to be a relaxing place with plenty of room and friendly staff.

the omniplex, which also has generally-friendly staff, just looks and feels dingier. there's always carpet-stains and crap on the walls. It doesn't help that they wedge as many seats as possible into the screens so that you feel like a herd of cattle being loaded into a trailer.

prefer the eye. don't have to head that bit further into town and the eye has the wall along the walkway separating the lower seats from the upper seats..perfect to put your feet up on without annoying anyone in front of you.

I actually prefer the omni because you can put your feet perfecly on the back of the arm rests infront of you.

I much prefer the Eye, even though I live really close to the Omniplex. The Omniplex has far too many teenagers at weekends! And it's very handy to collect pre-booked tickets at the Eye. Although I do prefer the seats in the Omniplex, but not enough to make me go there instead of the Eye.

prefer the omniplex, find the staff very friendly (eye staff also friendly), lovely popcorn ( large popcorn and drink 8.50 in omni, 7.50 in eye but rather pay d extra euro in omni which is far nicer

) and i find the seats tiny bit more comfortable. eye is nice the odd time for a change but omni all the way

I much prefer the Omni too. My main reason is because the popcorn is way nicer in the Omniplex. Actual screen and comfort wise there isn't much separating the two.

Now when is Galway getting our first IMAX cinema?!?! 2030 perhaps...

Eyecinema

Looks nicer and tidier
Has Ice cream stand open in evenings
Has luxury screen
Mainly all large screens

Omniplex

MUCH nicer popcorn
Far less watery/watered down coke
Larger sweet selection
When you don't get randomly put into the small screen room, the other ones are quite nice.
In town

The one gripe I have with both cinemas is they don't rechange their camera bulbs often enough and for quite a few movies.. I've had to endure them being very dark or faded, like Im actually watching a god damn CAM copy of a movie from a decent cinema..

Defiantly the Eye cinema for me. Omniplex seems to always have kids coming in and out of screens and noise at the back.
Popcorn is really manky in the Omni also.

Ya the city isn't near big enough but I heard on another thread (probably in the Film forum) that there will be one coming back to Dublin within the next year. Not sure which cinema it is though. Would love to have seen the Batman film in one.

Eye, definitely.

Better options in the neighbourhood for socialising before/after (Huntsman vs McDonalds & Star King ... no contest at all).

And far better bus service for getting there.

Omni much handier for me when strolling from town. Staff a bit friendlier there too. For after drink we'd head into town/Woodquay.

Eye is grand the odd time, are tickets a bit pricier? Not sure.

How much are tickets at Omniplex. I thought it was €7.20 at Eye and about €9 at omniplex. Maybe I just haven't looked at omniplex in ages.

Plus Eye does have Earlybird prices in early afternoon. Does omniplex?
Just wish the Earlybird was all films each week. But I think most films do turn up in it if you wait.

As far as I remember, the Eye was always a euro more expensive then the Omni

The Omniplex are a joke of a cinema. Haven't been there in almost two years because they constantly projected films incorrectly or had sound issues.

the omniplex is much handier for me, but the last i went there, a group of little kids, about 14 came in with 30mins to go and didnt shut up for the last bit, maybe there PG film ended and no one was on the door and they wandered in

The Omni is OK, but the few times I've been there, most of those had some sort of issue - most recently, went to see Total Recall on a whim, and the sound was screwed up for the first 15 minutes, time before that, the picture was off - just things that seem to never happen in the Eye. Plus, the Eye has Ben & Jerrys

Spare a thought for the poor Omni out in Oranmore...

I would never go elsewhere other than the Eye. Their screens are always clean and warm (never once had the sticky floor syndrome I grew accustomed to from the Omni years ago)

I've never had any problem with people being loud or disruptive during a movie.

The real nail in the coffin for me, is that the Eye does Pepsi Max which in my humble opinion is better than coke.

The Omniplex is just much more convenient for myself and friends. They don't care if you walk in with a bag with food etc, so it's great.

The Eye has a major issue, either the sound system is absolutely brutal or the person controlling it is clueless. The last few movies i went to see it was way too loud to the point it was distorted and tinny. Action sequences were just painful and ear piercing, totally distracting from the movie.

The Eye everytime!! The Omniplex is awful.. One time I went and they had a big patch on the screen, very distracting. Another time they forgot to turn the lights off so I had to go out & tell them... oh I could go on..

THe lights thing did happen at The Eye when I went to see Dredd a couple of weeks ago. light was reasonably low but wasn't going to work well with 3D specs. Thankfully somebody went and got them turned off.

I do remember having to ask the Omniplex to focus blurred projection several times in the days I went there. Hopefully that is something they've ceased to do.

I've wondered how taht projection thing works. Presumably tyhere is somebody going between rooms n the cinema starting films or there wouldn't be the windows to the projection room that you see in the cinema wall. I'd also assume that it was pretty much automated once the film began, if not before. So one person would be in charge of several if not all cinema projections. But things like taht out of focus projection getting fixed make me think it can't all be automated. That was some time ago though.

I think there was some quirk of the way that film was loaded for cinematic viewing that meant it couldn't be rewound. Something I heard somewhere else. So not sure what happens if a film breaks down part way through.

Okay so I finally went to see Batman in The Eye, loved the movie and thought the Eye was good.

Popcorn was a bit crunchy but okay. We also got nachos, these were great, lots of hot cheese and salsa, €3.45 good value!

Sometimes I found the sound was a little over-emphasised on the background sound effects and thus found the actual speech a little difficult to hear clearly at times.

Price of tickets was good, €7.20 or something, not bad for a mid week movie.

Comfort was fine as well, it was in the Arthouse cinema screen, found it fine.

Overall, positive experience and would definitely go again. Was hoping to check out the Omniplex this Sunday to see Killing them softly, but a previous poster mentioned the nachos are pre-packed or something. I wouldn't go there if this was the case
