my wife is a NCHD and has just started maternity leave. As per her contract she is entitled to basic pay for 26 weeks.
She got a letter from social welfare saying she will recieve €260 a week.
Whats that about, is that on top of her basic wage?

My understanding is that hospital will want that and they will pay her her basic wage directly

At the hospital where I work the arrangement is that maternity benefit is paid directly to me by social welfare and the hospital pays the remainder of my salary. As the maternity benefit is untaxed I end up with more in my pocket - which helps if you are planning on taking the 16 weeks unpaid leave.

I didn't realise that the maternity benefit is untaxed. Is that just the social welfare part?
