I’ll kick off this rundown by getting biggest change present in this Beta out of the way first: Unity 2D has been removed. It’s no more; gone; finito.

It’s Official: The Ubuntu LiveCD is Dead

Ubuntu 12.10 will increase the maximum size of its disc image from 700MB to 800MB, thereby making it too big to fit onto traditional CD-R media.

The reasoning behind the increase is likely to be two-fold.
Firstly, an extra 100MB of space on the disc gives developers more breathing room. As apps, packages and their dependencies become larger so to does the ‘foot print’ needed for them on the CD.

Looks stupid. I hate this tabletisation of desktops. I want my computer to be a proper computer.

Amen! I can't wait until I can use my phone, which has enough processing power to be a real computer, as a real computer. Roll on ubuntu for android!
