    Hi Peoples,

I need a bit of brief help , if possible someone who has been in this kind of situation before etc.

So to cut a long story short,

Was made redundant less than a year ago.

    Currently on state benefit.

Have been offered a temp contract with a company, however they are stating that it is a "self-employed" position.

In the email in reference after a follow-up telephone call, the person emailed said that it was basically a self-employed position and that I invoice them at an agreed daily rate.

Now the temp contract is only a month.
There i am to take it there will only be one invoice? as previous job i worked in , would send out invoice upon completion of that particular job and thus 30 days to pay kind of thing.

Anyway, what i am asking is, what is my best approach here?
Do I setup as self employed, and register as sole trader ?

Obviously, i do in and sign off dole (woohoo) and inform them of what is happening, but I am wondering about things like setting up a company/sole trader and taxes etc ?

Now i have limited funds available, and I am wondering, how expensive all this will be?

The payout from the temp contract will not be big, but its work and that is great, and i am hopeful that it may lead to more with this company .

Any and all information you can tell me / advise me etc would be great.

There is more than likely other questions i need to ask.. but i cant think of the top of my head.

If this is in the wrong section, i apologize, just on my mobile which is not android enabled, so the search isn't great.

I'm almost certain you can't claim state benefits after having been self-empoyed. So, if you're going to set up your own business, it'll have to be long-term - not just for a month!

If I were you, I'd negotiate and see if they'd agree to take you on as an employee for a month (at a reduced rate, since they'll be covering taxes/insurance/etc for you.) If not, I'd forget about it, if I were you.

Yes, i was wondering that about state benefits, i dont want to shoot myself in the foot at all, as it is only a month as well .

I will talk to the company and see if being employed as employee , as you suggest would be a better course of action, for this, as it is only a month, naturally, i would hope that there would be other jobs etc to follow, but i dont want to start up a company and then have it fail .

Thank you for you advice, I appreciate it very much

For a one month contract, if the employing company won't play ball, then you should sign up with an umbrella company. Google it.
