I'll be leaving UCD Newstead building at 17.00 every Thursday and want to be in Heuston at 18.00 . Anyone know whats the best way via public transport and would I make it in an hour. Its a bad time of day to be traveling and will buses be jammed therefore might not get on etc...any advice welcome!

I'd say Bike is probably your best bet, will take 30-45 minutes to Heuston, and should be an easy enough cycle. You may be able to put the bike on the train, but if not there's probably somewhere inside the station you could lock up.

Public transport wise, your best bet is the 145, but given you'll have about a 15 minute walk before you get to the stop, and up to a 10 minute wait for a 145, you're only going to have to hope the bus doesn;t take more than half an hour, which seems unlikely at rush hour.

    No.

(I've been told the locks at Hueston are rubbish and bikes get stolen there at weekends. Don't leave the bike there overnight or at weekends).

    Maybe consider an alternative train?

Pretty sure the 39 (might be 39a I'm not too sure) comes every few minutes and swings down that way, takes about 30 mins max I'd say.

I would recommend power walking down to the either the stop opposite RTE via the greenfield gate, or just going to the n11 main stop. Catch a 66X or a 67X. Most people dont get them so they go quick enough along the N11 and they are never ever full leaving Belfield. They never stop for a driver change like the 46a. They do go through town in a roundabout way but again as most people dont get them, they run quicker.
They will drop you off just across the luas bridge from Heuston.

The cash fares are expensive, so get yourself a student rambler ticket (you need a student travel card for that), or if you're only making the journey one-way maybe get a travel 90 ticket instead which works out at €2.15 per journey.

Not sure if the links below will work, they're from the national transport journey planner. They show the times the bus arrives at each bus stop. Depending on when the data was gathered (summer vs term time) they may or may not be too accurate. It might be worth watching the real time info for the stop near heuston online around between 5 & 6 over the next few days to see what times the buses are arriving.

67X times based on actual bus location data
