I agree with timetoshine on this one there has to be something going on behind the scenes were not being told, but im starting to believe its the board holding Wenger back and hes just doing his best to cover for them for some reason.

Look at Spurs ok they sold there best players but theyve gone out almost immediately and spent that money no hesitation with Levy being praised all over for his negotiating skills. We sold Song Wenger said replacements would be bought we all know we needed a DM including Wenger yet none has come in.

Yes Arteta has looked good there but its not his best position id rather him further up field with a Tiote type behind him, with our squad now one or two inurys in the wrong area of the field and we will be in trouble.

Sure I nearly forgot we have Schweinsteiger arriving any minute now.
Probably sharing the Taxi with M'Vila

but isn't it the boards job to take wages into account before they allocate the budget? what's the point of "giving" him money if they're expecting it back to pay wages? they're hardly telling him he has to break even behind the scenes are they?

You never know, they have often contradicted Wenger over the years about available resources.
I always thought part of Wengers arrogance, was doing it the hard and honourable way.
Having said that, if some of his best players hadn't ****ed off on him, we may be winning the league this year.

100%. It's a specialist position which you need someone very competent in it to make it work properly.

It reminds me of the 70 minute mark in our games when it is at 0-0. Pure frustration and an uneasy sense of here we go again.

I really pray that the Club's strategy does work. Seemingly, they believe that with Wilshere,Sagna, Frimpong etc returning in the near future, we dont need any addition to the team. It makes sense but I really pray we dont loose to L.Pool on Sunday unless they would face the wrath of the fans.

Song and van Persie's wages would likely be gone on Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla anyway.

Depending on how much wage (if any) we are still paying Park and Bendtner, we should have enough for at least one more player, assuming we arent paying it all.

Wenger said replacements would be bought we all know we needed a DM including Wenger yet none has come in.

I think he said "IF" a world class player became available he would make a move.

This gives him ample room where the fans are happy for a few weeks because we think that we are after top players and it also gives him the oppertunity to sign nobody.

All he has to say is that there was no player of sufficent quality available and he's covered his ass, giving the impression that he was in the market when he wasn't.

I've said it loads of times on here that he was never gonna replace Song. Project Youth is alive!

Ah sure it took us a year to replace Fabregas with Cazorla, so hopefully this time next year well have a replacement for Song.

I know we have Coq and Frimpong but are they ready we dont know, Wenger thought Ramsey was look how well that went last year. I do hope one of them steps up were going to need them to now.

Plus up front were looking very very thin, could prob do with recalling Ryo in January when Gerv fecks of to ACON, or I could see Gnabry getting more game time than expected this year.

Would love to think that it's the stadium debt that is holding us back but i'm pretty sure that even when the day comes that we will be a debt free club, we still won't be buying the calibure of player needed to challenge for the league.
The board will be all too happy to be making a profit year in year out, but the problem with that is because every other team in the league is trying to get better while we seem to be content on staying the same and not improving, we won't be holding onto that lucrative Champions League spot for much longer.

The players Arsene had faith in only reached the level required in terms of experience and peak talent, when they were ready for pastures new.
And that's been the real disappointing thing for the fans, we all had faith in the project, but it's proving to be a vicious circle for young talent.
By the time they are good enough, they are fed up with not enough key players around them.
But this season that is less of an issue with the 3 Arsene has bought, and that makes me a little less worried.

Thats exactly what I was thinking but I can see Arsene leaving Arteta back there. Song and him aren't too dissimilar. Both very good passers, break up play nicely etc etc, will be interesting come Sunday to see what we are gonna do.

There's always a tipping point with these things. The club will be at a cross road come the new sponsorship deal. How they utilize the new funds will be telling. I cannot see fans putting up with the shareholders pocketing money, charging high rates for tickets and having a team which does well each season but not competing for trophies.

I think it's safe to say we all want the best players playing at this club who can give us a title challenge to cheer about most years. If the shareholders deny that to the fans there will be an outcry when the money is there.

It's funny you say that cause if they all waited around we would have had an unbelievable team right now.

Most likely to free up that Falcao buy out clause as well :pac:

EDIT: Dempsey looking likely to join Spurs now, this day is turning into a kick in the nuts.

Jesus I'd even be delighted with Essien now

Things are gonna get messy once we start loosing games

Dempsey to spurs! this is bad!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭HazDanz

Evidently there was no top top quality to buy for 12 million today. Spurs went in for Dempsey late and have him. What was stopping us?

Javi Garcia and Stephen Mbia would do a job for us. Yet we didnt bother.

Why are people so eager to buy squad players when we have a massive squad of players. We need to trim our squad, not fatten it with has beens. I wanted Essien but only for what he might teach Frimpong and Coq, nothing more. I can't say I'd be overly excited with teh signing of Dempsey apart from the potential shirt sales and exposure in the US.

Essien perhaps now off to Madrid.
