100% I'd be sending the reserves to Russia.

Pardon my ignorance, was Suarez not in the pipeline before Torres was sold? I thought I'd read that that was the case?

Officially yes, although there is some talk that Torres actually said he wanted to leave early in the window, not just when we all heard of it a day or so before the deadline.

??? Newcastle got a favourable draw?

I dunno, Bruges and Bordeaux are alright, like.

    Happy enough with the draw.

Why? That's a pretty tough group by Europa League standards...

The hypothetical scenario is, dont spend 7m on Dempsey or whoever now. Wait until we are light of players through injuries and 4 comps, then spend heavily in Jan to cure it.

I may be totally wrong but i would rather go into the full season with a squad capable of covering for stuff like that. If people think August is tough to get deals, then Jan is 10 times worse.

Anzhi stuffed Alkmaar 5-0 last night away from home

You do that, you're gonna get hammered. If we can stomach a hammering with bigger goals in mind then fair enough. Fans will need to be understanding in such a scenario.

I think it's pretty brutal draw.

Is Eto'o any use at Anzhi?

    That's a fairly appalling draw.

No doubt, but look at the other groups, it's one of the most favourable we could of asked for imo.

    Charlie Adam gone now :D

What well known names have Anzhi got? Hiddink managing, Eto'o, Samba, Zhirkov & Lacina Traore, anyone else? The away match will certainly be difficult. Are they looking at strengthening in this transfer window?

Drawing Anzhi is nothing to be happy about for travelling reasons alone. Young Boys play on an artificial surface, something of which gave Spurs problems a couple of years ago in the Champions League. Very different, inferior team to the one that faced Spurs at least.

Di Natale at Anfield makes me happy though :)

Really weren't too many more difficult combinations!

18 goals in 30 games since he signed.

They have Chris Samba, Yuri Zhirkov aswell. Guus Hiddink is their manager.

tbh, I'd be sending them to play most of the matches. We just don't have the squad to be sending strong teams playing Thursday and another game at the weekend. Rodgers I thought was kinda alluding to as much last night when asked if he wanted to go all the way in the competition.

He said something along the lines of he wanted to make sure we got into the group stage for the games but we have to be realistic in that the squad is quite small for competing on multiple fronts. Maybe wishful stuff on my part that I thought he was implying he just wanted to make sure we have a load of competitive games for the younger players.

    Opr

Why bother entering the competition at all if we would do that? It's not ideal, but if we were going to send reserves only on any trip longer than a couple of hours might as well have just rolled over for Hearts in the qualifying round.

Yea, easily the worst 4th pot team we got which is what makes it pretty terrible. Would have much prefferred a stronger 2nd place team and a weak 4th place team instead. Just glad we avoided Brussia in the 3rd pot, that really would have been a killer.

I remember that. It was hilarious at the time, but I'm not so happy now.

Jaysus hardly feckin disgusting. Some feckin young fella is delighted Charlie is gone so money can be spent elsewhere. Not something I'd post myself but when I read it was disgusting I was expecting much much worse.

How in the name of **** do you know that's why he wanted Charlie sold? He said: YEEESSSSSSSSSS, GET INNNNNN. That would indicate to me that he's more than likely one of these knuckle draggers that believes everything the red-tops tell him and thought Adam was an awful player.

I'm sorry and this is gonna ruffle a few feathers but it's all about top 4 this season for me .

If we go out in the group stages so be it . As long as everyone stays fit I don't care who plays .

That approach still makes no real sense to me. By all means use a few of the fringe players, but playing totally weakened teams makes no sense as they will get crucified probably which does neither the club nor the players any good. I expect probably stronger teams in the home games as per the last round, but it shouldn't be all reserves/fringe players.

    I tend to agree.

Getting out of this group will require some degree of focus. I always think it's a worthy competition. Punt the League and FA Cups this year instead if necessary.

Absolutely. I said it a few weeks ago, id have no problem going out in the first stage of all competitions and focusing fully on the league. Im not expecting Top 4 but id like to at least challenge for it.
