I think suarez is a fantastic player but he is so wasteful in front of goal. So frustrating

I'm going to reserve judgement until Friday night on this deal.

If this allows us to bring in a better striker who will play first team football, then i'm ok with it. If we're stuck with what we have up front now, then I'm against it.

I'd feel a hell of a lot better if this deal had the enforced buy clause if they stay up though.

As for those saying about him coming back with a lower value, I don't get this argument. He's had 18 months of depreciating at Liverpool, what difference if he devalues further somewhere else? At least now he will have the opportunity to raise his value rather than, at best, stagnate, at Liverpool.

Don't know yet if this is the best thing for LFC, but it's definitely the best thing for him - he gets to actually play football.

(I am, incidentally, very confident he'll score more at West Ham with Big Sam than he would at Liverpool. He suits Sam's football down to the ground.)

I wouldn't get your hopes up of signing a 'goalscorer' to replace Carroll.

That's not to say if I were in Rodgers' shoes, I would not buy one, far from it. I would, as most here would, buy someone who can finish. I won't pretend to have seen much of Welliton but the type of player Kess describes him as is what I would be looking for.

But did Rodgers not say he wanted goals to come from all areas of the strikeforce as opposed to a single forward (I'm paraphrasing here)? I do see the rational side of this - rather than putting your eggs all in one basket and then see the 'goalscorer' crocked. By that token buying say (and this is hypothetical), Dempsey and Walcott over Huntelaar does have its merits.

Having said that, if you are going by that route, you buy prolific players. Walcott's record isn't bad, but his pace is by far and away his main attribute. You have that threat already in Sterling and Assaidi. It would make much more sense to buy Dries Mertens or someone of his ilk. Someone with a record of scoring a high figure from a wide forward position, not an average one. And there will be those out there

What would my ultimate preference be? Get rid of Adam and Cole, and get a reliable CF (And Dempsey if possible). But, if Rodgers works by the logic I considered higher up, and I suspect he will, it has to be 2 goalscoring guys. And I wouldn't peg Walcott as one.

I would be very happy if we signed Mertens tbh, although I think it was Kess who said in mainland Europe Assaidi had an almost bigger reputation than he did.

I've watched Mertens a few times yet Assaidi was a name that came out of the blue to me when he signed.

Liverpool couldn't score goals last season and are already struggling this season.

If he doesn't sign a goalscorer it may well cost him his job.

And Andy Carroll wouldn't have made any difference.

    .
@TonyBarretTimes: West Ham's option to buy Carroll requires the agreement of all three parties (player and both clubs) in order to come into effect.

    Stating the obvious surely?

Carroll was poor last year with a manager who wanted him....Doubt he would be any better this year with a manager who didn't want him!

    Time will tell.

This game tonight highlights our issues up front. I really hope something is in the pipeline

Sturridge the man lined up to replace Carroll according to Sky Sports.

Usually its only the buying club and the player once the loan has been agreed.

At least we have the option to reject it next summer.

So basically they can bid for the player?

    Edit - Oh Pepe!

Would not be a fan of signing Sturridge.

Although he does have the redeeming feature of being a direct option, albiet for the wrong reasons. :pac:

Reina at fault again....I'm very worried about him.

Has not been of standard for at least a year now.

Don't know how I'd feel about Sturridge coming in? As others have said there's much better value to be gotten elsewhere.

Longer I would say. He surely can't be considered one of the top keepers in the world anymore, too many (costly) mistakes.

    Edit: Finally Suarez!

Even apart from the mistake, we should have this done and dusted:mad:

What a finish, great player, never doubted him;)

That's an odd arrangement. It puts the selling club at a disadvantage does it not? If the player does crap the loan club just says no thanks. If player does well then the fee doesn't change.

We need to talk about Pepe.

I thought everyone did okay tonight apart from Reina, Kelly, Morgan and Suarez (apart from the goal, and he picked it up after that).

We look alot more dangerous when Sterling is in the team. Amazing what a bit of pace does.

Fairly abysmal game tbh though thought Gerrard/Allen played well; think downing was top notch at left back also.

I'm the opposite. Tonight was another case of poor finishing nearly coming back to haunt us. A very good performance in nearly all respects apart from the finishing. We need a killer up front to score the easy goals

Morgan first competitive game, played out of position I thought he did well. Sterling is different class already though

His whole time at the club told enough for me.

After watching Spearing, Adam and Henderson chase players and give away fouls trying to get the ball back all last year its great to see a player like Allen who can read the game so well to be able to intercept a pass or harass a player without giving fouls away. He is calm spot in a hectic midfield, never seems rushed, just like a certain past player.
