Said it at the time we should have bit West Hams hand off with the £19mil plus pay the wages for Carroll .

Alright £17mil was after their survival but it kept him away from Necastle and strengthening them at our expense.

Just hope they are still in the background waiting for the clock to tick down.

A bit off topic, but can anyone else think of contenders for the title of biggest waste of money? Carroll is surely in the top 5. Denílson de Oliveira Araújo must be up there as well..

There is the small matter of the player having to agree to the move as well. I think there is no chance of him going to London, and that the player will hold out for a return back to the North East.

Should try to sell him to Martin O'Neill and start a Geordie/Mackem shytestorm for the ages. :D

It's more about convincing Carroll to go to London i reckon. It's 3 hours drive from Liverpool to Newcastle, 6 hours from London. He's probably happier a bit more north, hence a move back home be handier for him. And if that is not the case, then i'm sure on a footballing level he'd rather go back to high-flying Newcastle than be stuck under Big Sam as West Ham struggle all season.

Given that they've spent a chunk of money on Jarvis I doubt they'd have too much left. Maybe if they did the £2m loan fee now and rest next summer they could manage it. However, they've been pretty poor so far so wouldn't be overly confident they will stay up.
The other main problem was that Carroll didn't want to go there.

It's like we have a car that we spent a few quid on a couple of years ago but need to offload now because another kid is on the way and our needs have changed. We know one of the neighbours up the road would be interested in this car and will make an offer for it.

To maximise the offer he'll make we really should keep the car clean, drive it on a semi regular basis and maybe mention it to the neighbour's mate that you're thinking (just thinking mind) about changing to something else.

Not us though. We put a "FOR SALE CALL 08X" sign in the window and park the car on the grass leaving it obviously unused for an extended period.

Consequently, when the neighbour takes it off us he makes us a much lower offer and we have less leverage to up his bid.

We just haven't been very smart on this one let's be honest.

To make this worse, it was the bloke up the road who sold you the car in the first place for a price which was triple what it was worth, and when you finally got home you realised it wasn't a car but in fact a donkey with a wheel taped onto each leg.

Worst of all every time you mention selling it half your friends remember one day at the beginning of the summer where for about forty five minutes your donkey looked like it might be about to transform into a car and use this as justification for you keeping it rotting in your garage.

We want him sold. Short of actively calling clubs up to sell him on, using the press to state that he's a 3rd choice striker and is available is a good idea.

I'd rather he be a 3rd choice striker than sell him to Spurs or Newcastle though. Just because he won't fit our system doesn't mean he won't excel in theirs.

At the end of the day all that matters is how he does for us. If he is not in the manager's plans then get rid of him. But the lack of interest in him save for Newcastle and West Ham shows exactly how "rated" Carroll is.

The scary thing is that the price that Newcastle are meant to have offered is probably more than the player is worth, but the crazy figure we paid for him is skewing many a pov.

We know what he's capable of at Newcastle though. And we know how much they want him back. We'll be asking for more from them than others and rightly so.

If he's anything like his old man, this could be either a) Carroll or b) putting a big spin on Sujlemani coming in from Ajax or c) they pluck Del Piero from thin air!! wouldn't hold my breath based on a Sullivan tweet anyway!

I hope he digs his heels in and stays. He's a great guy and I'd love to see him succeed at Liverpool. He has the potential.

It was a tough year for Andy last year and, in truth, his form probably contributed to the sacking of Kenny, but I hope Andy sticks around and makes a fist of it.

Rumour that we've agreed a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, St Etienne striker.
Was at Milan for 4 years but constantly loaned out, mixed success.
Scored 18 in 38 matches last season, only signed a perm deal with them in Dec 11.

We did think there'd be another surprise, let's see if this is it...

Yep, the £35 Million is still in peoples minds and in the clubs obviously. This £20 Million figure is mad, as was the £17 Million talked about on here. He probably is worth £12 Million. Depreciates like a Daewoo and unless you sell dirt cheap he'll be a friend for life.

As for the DM, what we needed was a partner for Lucas that could cover him if he got injured, we got that plus Sahin, not a bad situation to be in.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

nobody has the potential to succeed if they do not fit into the managers thinking. He may well turn his career around elsewhere but BR does not strike me as a complete U-turn man.

I wonder is this some kind of psychological mind game hes playing with andy, to make him work his socks off and try and hit a bit of form. :D

Or that could be my wishful thinking , id love to see andy given a proper run tonight.

Willing to fight his way into the team, more like it. He'll get his chance from the bench and if he starts banging them in from the bench then Rodgers will have to play him.

Andy's in the driving seat and he's clearly up for the challenge. That's just what we need! Him shutting Rodgers up means goals for Liverpool.

Wow that lad would be a real coup. Pacy, good movement and is turning into a prolific finisher. I'd say Ade, Kess and other lads who watch French football would know alot more but from what I've seen of him last year and even during the Olympics with Gabon, he looks a talent

Asking for more than the players worth and getting it are very different things. We were stupid enougth to pay way over the odds for him, but that does not mean that they will be stupid enough to pay more than he is worth.

Newcastle are not in a rush to buy and they can sit back and wait until the end of the transfer window as they already have decent strikers at their club.

They have effectively replaced Carroll for £8m in transfer fees by bringing in Ba and Cisse, making £27m profit on the Carroll fee. I would be amazed if they would go about £15m for Carroll in this window as that is even probably more than what he is worth now.

Would be different if we were trying to sell off a much sought after player who had performed well over a prolonged period of time, but we are not. We are trying to sell a player that we paid way to much for and who has underperformed for the most part. Would imagine that most clubs would look at Carroll and see a guy who has flattered to deceive in the Premiership for the most part and who would be a risk to buy. People talk about the likes of Walcott being a risk and say that he is not consistent enough, well Walcott has been far more consistent and prolific than Carroll, yet some people seem to talk about Carroll as if we should be getting £20m or more for him.

I would say that banging in a few goals puts him in the manager's thinking. The ball's in Andy's court as he's too big a signing to put out in the cold like a Charlie Adam or a Joe Cole. He can stick around and push his way into the team. He seemed to develop a certain resolve about him towards the end of last season and I, for one, am all for Andy Carroll staying.

    WHO'S WITH ME?!?!? :)

Is this according to the ITK people were talking about the other day and saying he was reliable? My mate RT'ed him earlier I think, so took it with a pinch of salt. He was very impressive in the one game I saw of Etienne last season vs Lyon and going from Ligue 1 highlights. Started this season well too.

Gem to bet on last season as well.

He has been getting his chance from the bench and through starts for a year and a half, most of it in a system which was better suited to his style of play than the one used by the current manager and hasn't been banging them in. The thought of him shutting anyone up is laughable to me, the thought of him being in the driving seat or up for any challenge even more so. As far as I am concerned his Liverpool career is dead and has been since this....
