How did that work out for them with Agger?
Oh wait, I remember - "He was never a target."

    Suuuuure...
Most footballers aren't like Agger. If we offered £10 million and £80k a week for Walcott, you can be sure that City would offer £15 million and £100k a week. I think it's silly for us to get into a bidding war with them; even if we are successful, we will end up overpaying.

Jaysus that's crap. At least we have some decent backup now. Hopefully they are talking worst case scenario and he'll be back sooner.

2/3 months :( it didn't look anything serious. Good job we got Sahin or we'd be fúcked again

Thats terrible news that he is out for so long :( And just after he has come back.

That's a major pity. Hopefully Sahin settles in quickly and Allen can take up the Lucas role.

Coming back from such a long term injury is always very difficult and it often happens that it results in a different injury. He'll have to take recovery slow again so I'd imagine he'll take the whole 2/3 months to get back right.

I know it's easy to say in hindsight but how the hell did they leave him play after he felt it during the warm up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,341 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

That's why he's reluctant to sign a new contract.
I think Wenger plays him wherever is best for the team, not necessarily what is best for Walcott/what is Walcott's best position

you see, i don't necessarily think, especially with VP heading off, that Wenger would stop Walcott being a centre-forward if he was good enough.

i mean, Henry was a winger turned CF.

if Walcott was good enough, surely he'd have been given a chance there by now? i'm just a bit skeptical...

    Arrghhhh....balls.

Will we sell Spearing still? Leaves us relying on Henderson and Shelvey in that position.

    Hmmm....fckin fckty fukkk

I remember when Lucas signed he got plenty of stick off everyone, now he's one of the main men, hopefully he gets back to fitness soon, very unfortunate for him.

In my opinion we should definitely still sell Spearing, we have Allen, Gerrard, Sahin, Henderson and Shelvey for the 3 midfield spots and that's only for the next 2-3 months then Lucas is back.

    No it won’t.

Allen will probably play that role in the league while Lucas is out, and possibly Henderson in cup matches

    Allen/Henderson
    Sahin/Shelvey
    Gerrard

Is hardly catastrophic for a couple of months even if we get rid of Spearing and Adam.
If things really get bad then we have Suso in the reserves who can play a couple of those positions

Feel really bad for Lucas. Tbh now I'd keep Spearing just to make up the numbers. Get rid of Adam.

I'm not saying he is good enough but if Walcott feels he is or feels he at least deserves the chance then you can see why he's not happy/reluctant to sign a contract. If that is the case of his unhappiness then I really hope we don't sign him.

A cautionary tale for those who read too much into twitter twatter.

    Hey Guys,
I am writing to tell you that, no, I am not a 'Football Agent' or 'ITK.' I am infact an 18 year old and I have been fooling all of you gullible idiots with my fake stories for the past 2 months.
I started out when I was bored one evening and I never once thought that I could get 43k followers. I feel my twitter experience has been very successful with some of my 'Stories' even trending 5th in the world. I'm proud to say that I haven't had even one transfer scoop in my time yet people still say im more reliable than Sky Sports News and the BBC. Laughable.
Some of my personal highlights were the Kaka and Falcao stories which were completely made up. The Daily Mail even wrote an article based on my Kaka tweets and the 2 journalists who wrote it were following me. The Falcao story was possibly my favourite. Last night it was trending worldwide for over an hour and for over 3 hours in Spain and in the UK.
Another fascinating thing about my time on twitter was how some top respected journalists believed my rubbish and even used me as a news source.
Whilst I am here I can also point out there is no such thing as an ITK or Agent on twitter, anyone with an IQ in double figures would realise this. @Agent_NCP , @EPL_Source and @Agent_ITK are all just poor versions of myself who would be nothing without begging me for shoutouts. @Backpage is another clown who stole my fake stories everyday and passed them off as their own.
Im not sorry for wasting everybody's time, you should have realised I was a fake when I got all of my stories wrong and deleted countless tweets. I still cant believe that, I, personally have been trending in Manchester, Leeds, Ireland, Nigeria and South Africa. Perhaps I do feel a bit sorry for the guy who got 'Falcao 20' printed on his Chelsea top.
I have really enjoyed my time on twitter, especially winding up Everton and Tottenham fans on a daily basis. You idiots must have realised I was a fake when I linked your team with every player possible in the hope that one move would happen.
My time has now come to and end and I hope to enjoy the last few days of the transfer window without making up rumours myself. Thank you to whoever followed me and retweeted my garbage, it was really appreciated. Goodbye Everyone

Alan Pardew has conceded defeat in his efforts to bring Andy Carroll back to Newcastle before the summer transfer window slams shut.

The Magpies have already tabled one offer for a man they sold to Liverpool for £35million in January 2011.

Liverpool are unwilling to discuss the current terms on offer, but remain open to the prospect of offloading the England international.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will not allow Carroll to leave on loan but a permanent agreement could be reached, and the 23-year-old would favour a return to the North East.

Pardew, though, believes a deal is unlikely.

Asked on Wednesday if the re-signing of Carroll was still a possibility, he replied: "Not as far as I'm aware, no."

Newcastle have been able to bolster their ranks with the signings of Vurnon Anita, Romain Amalfitano and Gael Bigirimana this summer, but a number of top targets have remained agonisingly out of reach.

Pardew remains in the market for possible late deals, but does not anticipate there being a late flurry of transfer activity on Tyneside.

He said: "We are just watching the market and seeing if anything pops its head up that's appealing to us.

"Agents keep ringing me and giving me all sorts of names - they must think we don't scout - but we are aware of the ones we are watching and if they decide to move on, then we might trigger ourselves.

"But at the moment, the targets we have are all very much secure at their clubs."

I do too and it will be an initial loan deal with a view to permanent.

I reckon he will be a Newcastle player on Saturday morning

Me too. He clearly still wants him, pressure on his board and chairman to make it happen.

Also big hints that presser that Cole and Adam should find themselves a club, assuming they were the squad players he was referreing to. As for Walcott...

If we were shafted it was when we bought him.

It’s clear that there is no great market out there for Andy Carroll. He has not proven enough that he can score goals in the PL (though I think he can) and his wages are way too high for a player with his track record.
If there is no market for him beyond West Ham and Newcastle, both of whom seem to want loan-to-buy deals, then what can we do?

We can keep him, but we can’t force the manager to like him and we can’t force the manager to play him. It’s very likely he will be a “last 10 minutes” player in the league, and leading our line in the cups. That’s fine, I reckon he will rip up the Europa League.

We can loan him out. We would be saving 4m a year in wages, plus a loan fee. That might give us scope to go out and replace him before Friday, but I wouldn’t be sure.

Or we can sell him, for whatever we can get for him (or, whatever the market says he’s worth). £10m cash and a £25 million loss on a player might leave us all feeling pretty annoyed on Saturday morning, but if he’s replaced with a starting XI forward then I’m not sure what we’d have to complain about

Devastated at the news about Lucas. Joe Allen did well against City the other night filling in for Lucas but it isn't his position. You only need to look at the numbers, not only the % but the amount of extra work Lucas gets through during a match.

Corresponding fixture last season against City.

    Allen - 43 out of 46 passes completed (93%)
    Lucas - 69 out of 75 passes completed (92%)

Allen - won (57%) 4/7 of his ground duels were successful
Lucas - Won (82%) 13/16 of his ground duels were successful

Allen - Won (33%) 1/3 of his tackles were successful
Lucas - Won (100%) 7/7 of his tackles were successful

Allen - Won (25%) 1/4 of his aerial duels were successful
Lucas – Won (100%) 4/4 of his aerial duels were successful

    Opr
