    Hello everyone,

As the above title suggets I am looking for work (who isnt?) and I'll pretty much do anything.

I am currently drawing Jobseekers Allowance since the beginning of this month and have been unemployed since April of this year and it's actually really getting me down, as I would have no problem working for same wage as what Jobseekers Allowance is now providing.

My backround is a Higher Cert in HRM upon finishing school and I trained to be a pilot, finished that last year. Since then, there is virtually no chance of getting anything in the flying business for the foreseeable future and every penny I get for Jobseekers Allowance will go towards keeping my license and other flying documents up to date, so that pretty much ruled me out going back to college this year as I can not afford it.

Could anyone offer any suggestion/opinions on what I could do? I have had one interview this year, in retail and I never got it and that was it. I've applied to a substantial amount of jobs and not heard a "peep" from anything.

    It's very dis-hearting.

    Thanks for your time

First suggestion is "hang in there" it's tough, and we all know it. You just gotta keep trying.

Second - focus on some particular roles, and have a good story for employers about why you want them. Otherwise the employers just see someone who really wants to be a pilot and will quit the first time he gets a better job. (Which you will - but don't let the employers know that.)

Obviously you're not going to get a flying job, but maybe focus on the aviation industry as a whole, eg shop assistant at the airport might be more up your street than the same role in another location.

One last thought: unfortunately "I'll do anything" often translates to "I don't really want to do anything", whereas if you target it, you can focus on particular skills and attributes. And I'll bet there are some things you wouldn't do eg childcare, scrubbing toilets, security-guarding, home-support for older people, night porter ... whatever your own personal definition of hell is.

Thank you for the reply JustMary,

I do understand what you are saying about "slogging" it out. I'm not saying anything about drawing benefit as everyone's circustances are different but it's not something I particularly enjoy doing.

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

Have you considered moving to Australia, there is a shortage of pilots over there and its on the Western Australian skilled migration occupation list 2011 - 2012.

try everywhere you dont see advertised, the likes of tescos, dunnes, m&S, Pennys, mac donalds... all these places always have some sort of work going but they wont advertise usually on jobs.ie or anything like that. best bet is to go out with CV's and go everywhere.
