Might not be a bad idea since he cant go past players it might have the opposite effect and nobody can get past him:D

No harm, he is athletic, has pace, would need to work on positioning and cover play but id rather him lb than lw given his previous appearances at the top end for us.

He's still available as cover for the wing positions as well. I think it's a great way to maximise the efficiency of the squad.

I would still play Jack Robinson LB in every cup match, including European games. But Downing would be decent cover there.

He has to go next summer though.

Sterling-Suarez-Walcott could potentially be a pretty devastating attack, but it would require a step-up from all three.

Yeah wed have pace to burn, not to mention assaidi who is quick too apparently.
But we can't expect sterling to be a 1st team player the whole time, while id go as far as to say he's probably the biggest prospect for a young player for England he's still just a kid. He's gonna be a big star but Luke Lloyd said let's nut ruin a good thing, and I'm fairly certain rodgers won't.

Trying to think of attacking players who made the switch to full back successfully... All I can think of is Stephen Ward, but there must be more?

Zambrotta started out as a striker, then a winger and eventually full back, I think.

I'd take Walcott over Sturridge every day of the week.

Yes he's a bit of a headless chicken at times, but he can be lethal too and offers something different (lets not judge Sterling on one game)..
He rates himself more as a forward than a winger too so as part of a front 3 with Suarez/Borini,Sterling/whoever else I can see him do some serious damage.

Hopefully the 100k wage part is bollox but i'd snap the boy up.

To be fair, it's only supporters of other clubs who are doing that. Liverpool fans have seen what he's about for a few years now.

I dont think Sterling will be overplayed this season we also have Assaidi who plays there and at a pinch Downing

    Coentrao is another as well.

Few from a bit further back would be the likes of Cafu and Roberto Carlos.

I imagine there is a hat full of examples tbh, a lot better than Stephen Ward too :p

I wouldn't be too unhappy with getting Walcott for 10m and 70k a week. I'm trying to be realistic in that Arsenal paid 12m for him iirc, so they won't want to go too far away from that irregardless of the fact he is in his last year. He is a better player now than he was then after all. If it's true he's on 60k at Arsenal then 70k wouldn't be seen as massive for us, particularly if he was going to be a regular starter. Maybe there could be incentivised bonuses in there then too.

Players moving positions is really common, just not sure how common it is for players who are supposedly in their prime. It's far more common to happen at the beginning of a career or in the latter stages when the legs are going.

No Wallcott! What about Iker Muniain? Seems like Bilbao are in a bit of disarray, might be able to get him for a decent fee, wages wouldn't be too much I imagine.

We've been linked with him every transfer window for 5 years I would say, except for this one. Watch now as he joins :D

In all seriousness, I don't think we'd get him. At least 3 years left on his contract and would cost us 15-20m I would think. Doubt A.Bilbao would want to sell to us either.

Walcott could be a very good CF imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 598 ✭✭✭Whippersnapper

We'd be buying him as a striker, part of a front three I assume. Walcott, Borini and Suarez don't really scream GOALS to me.

Well I just remember that Llorente was being talked about heading to juve for €20 million so I'm guessing Muniain would be few million below that. Why would Bilbao not want to sell to us? Did we piss them off by bidding for him before?!

Its quite shocking the lack of quality strikers in the premier league
they are a dying breed, the shearers fowlers coles of this world,

Game has moved on to more technical forwards, Rather than instinctive finishers

14-YEAR-OLD DIES AFTER GAME OF FOOTBALL WITH PALS

A 14-year-old boy died suddenly last night after playing football near his Mayfield home.
Graham O’Connell, from The Steeples, in Mayfield, was pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital last night after collapsing.
He was rushed to hospital but attempts to revive him failed.
The teenager was a huge Liverpool fan and today, friends were organising a Twitter campaign in an attempt to have his name placed on the scoreboard during Thursday night’s game between Liverpool and Hearts at Anfield.
David is survived by his parents David and Jackie, and his two sisters Karen and Edel.
His removal will take place tomorrow evening at the Coburg Street funeral home of Jerh O’Connor Ltd, at 7pm, to Our Lady Crowned Church in Mayfield.
Requiem Mass will be at 12 noon on Thursday, followed by burial in St Catherine’s cemetery in Kilcully.

    Tragic.

Carra played as a striker in his pre-professional years, hard as that is to believe
