I'm doing well to remember the match on Saturday let alone a few years ago so I couldn't argue or agree with you.

Zenit are now 2/1 to sign Nani, Spurs at 8/1 and AC & PSG at 16/1.

I'd fancy Spurs to get him. Cash from the sale of Modric plus AVB connection.

Just out of curiosity why do you think Nani would go to Spurs. Why would he be interested in dropping his standards. He is used to winning trophys and im sure when entering his prime his standards are higher than Spurs.

    Yup, thats correct

Vidic let one bounce over his head for Torres to make it 2-1. From (a very shaky) memory.

Not sure if you follow the journo's much but I'm sure the author of that piece is Neil Custis, brother of another journalist Shaun Custis (who sometimes appears on Sunday Supplement).

Both are utter tossers and both have bans from Ferguson's Friday conferences for the foreseeable future. There are actually some hilarious quotes from Ferguson on this (will try and dig them out)

In other words, he is an unreliable journo who has often penned anti-United pieces and he also works for The Sun which should only be used for the images on page three and as a last alternative to bog roll.
Managers became aware that newspapers placed real value on their postmatch musings, so much so that they would ban from their press conferences those reporters who had offended them. At Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has used this weapon more readily than most. Journalists have been banned, barred and banished in indiscriminate clusters, and for all manner of offences. He once halted a press conference after spotting Shaun Custis of The Sun. “What are you doing here?” he bawled. “I banned you last week.” “That wasn't me,” said Shaun, “that was my brother, Neil.” “I don't care!” yelled Ferguson. “You're banned as well. There's too many Custises in this bloody world!”

I love how he treats journalists.

If his wage demands are too much for us you can count Spurs out of the race.

:D Thanks for that! Ah that was just brilliant. Though a lot of good journalists are starting to get banned now. Mark Ogden the most recent.

haven't had time to read through the past few pages but people/rags suggesting that Rooney may get sold... Wouldn't he fail a medical?

It annoys the crap out of me - Some bans are probably justifiable, but it seems like a lot of them are just childish reactions from Fergie. Mark Ogden banned for reporting that Ferdinand was injured last weekend, a great example. It is petty and pathetic.

One day soon the Man United Friday press conference will just be Fergie and the MUTV crew.

Firstly they have the money from the Modric sale.

Also, AVB is an ambitious manager who did really well at Porto winning trophies and it seems as though he is trying to build his own squad at Spurs and look to do the same with them. He might be able to convince Nani that he will be the catalyst for his new "project" depending on how well he is able sell it to him. I think Nani would enjoy the idea of being the main man. Then you could also suggest the fact that the manager is a fellow countryman could also be significant.

I don't think Spurs would have a problem paying his wages and the lure of the bright lights of London could be too much for Nani.

Also the fact that that they are 2nd favourites with the bookies. ZSB are favourites but I would think London would have more of an appeal to him and he has been bassed in the UK for quite a while as well.

If he was to go to ZSB it would mean a change of culture for him.

So what? Whats to be gained by being some kind of media darling like Hodgson. F*ck the lot of them I say. Fergie gives them the disdain they deserve.

Spurs wage cap is sonething like 80k. They couldnt afford Nani.

Why would he? Can't see why he won't be able to make a full recovery from this latest one and he has no other previous chronic injuries really

They've broken it now for the likes of Bale though and the % of Adebayor's wages they're paying depending on who you believe, looks like they're leaving it behind which of course they have to if they want to attract proven quality.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post

I think it's closer to 90 or 100k. Couldn't say for certain though.

That's what he's on now I think? In or around. But the move wouldn't only be about money. He already is a wealthy man.

I think it would depend a lot on how AVB was to sell the club and his plans to Nani.

I don't think Bale is on much more than 80k have you a link?

Also Man City were still paying the lion's share of the Adebayor fee and that combined with a big signing on fee was keeping him below the weekly wage cap to AFAIK.

Even if he is a wealthy man he would be a complete mug to take the footballing step down to Spurs as well as a sideways move in salary at best.

I just cannot see any way one of United'd best players would make a move to Spurs unless he has had some kind of catastrophic falling out with management and wants to get away ASAP a la Robinho from Madrid a few years ago.

Its a big step down in terms of the levels football wise the clubs are at and I don't think they could pay him the 6 figure salary a week that could come close to justifying that step down.

l'd be stunned if it happened.

We will wait and see what happens between now and Friday.

Other tham himself and now Anderson being connected with Spurs there seems to be no players coming or going.

Delighted that Mark Ogden is banned. Think he's a pretty awful journalist, don't know how he gets the ''good'' reputation he has. Probably just because he works for the Telegraph.

Well noone's wages are ever officially made public so no use searching for links, at the time his new deal was signed I seen it reported to be anywhere from £75-100k p/w and I'd imagine it's at the higher end given the interest he was supposedly generating. The £80k ceiling was to do with King's wages too afaik and keeping the captain on the highest wages by seniority (not through any clause) I think.

And as for Adebayor it's reported that it works out Spurs are paying £100k p/w to him, kind of another reason I'd think they're giving Bale that sort of money now too.

ya, i have to laugh about all the wages talk in general and how much a player is on a week! the reality is, very few players wages are actually what they are rumored to be.

i mean, how on earth for example would people really know how much players are on, its all guess work and hear say to be honest!?

I don't think so tbh, I rarely see him get any exclusives right. I think it was him trying to claim we signed van Persie for £15m plus add ons. Load of bollix.

He was banging on about us being in for Gaitan a few months ago as well when the more reliable journalists like Daniel Taylor were saying it was nonsense. We hardly heard a peep about Gaitan this Summer.

There's a few other things as well but can't think of them at the moment. But I've read a lot of his stuff and he's definitely not a journalist that I rate.

i get what your saying and ive no time for Taylor either, BUT, just because something doesnt happen, doesnt mean the journalist is wrong surely?

im pretty sure that we are interested in Gaitan or at least we were, it was all over the Portuguese media and in my opinion the interest was real. lazy journalism perhaps, but we cant use examples of players not signing for us, to beat a writer.

apart from places like the Sun and goal.com who come out with the likes of the Kaka stories and Ashley cole plus other rubbish, i am happy to say that for every 10 players that we are linked with by non rag papers, that maybe 7 or 8 of them are true to an extent, its just most of them dont happen. lots of reason, but United have signed 5 players this summer, we are linked to dembele and one or two more, we were linked to hazard and Lucas and in all fairness, this summer more than anything else should tell you that almost all the united rumours were true in one way or another.

we didnt sign hazard or lucas, but we were damn close to doing so. its the fault of greedy players or agents, not the journalist.

I find it hard to believe that Rooney would be sold, when RVP signed SAF said he had a strike force just as good as the 99 team and now the papers would have you believe he wants to offload Rooney and that City are the only team interested, whoever writes this kinda stuff is in the wrong job they should be comedians

Well I have plenty of time for Taylor, he's had plenty of exclusives that were bang on the money. Enjoy reading his stuff as well, it's clear to me that he has good contacts.

Ogden is just someone who has never impressed me. With regards the Gaitan thing, the reason I don't think we were in for him is because Taylor and somebody else (I think James Ducker) were saying it was nonsense. There wasn't much speculation over the Summer about trying to get Gaitan either, usually you would hear a bit if there was any truth to it.

I believe we were in for Hazard and Baines, Fergie confirmed we were in for Lucas so I agree that just because a player doesn't come, it doesn't mean a journalist was lying. I wasn't belittling the Gaitan story because he didn't come, but because I didn't rate the journalists that reported it and I did rate the journalists that said it was nonsense.

Ogden and a lot of the other journalists make a living from rehashing continental news stories and putting their own spin on tabloid gossip. Other journalists actually have decent contacts within clubs.

i think on this instance, Taylor was wrong and just got lucky. suppose the only way that can be prooved either way is if gaitan eventually signs for us.

As I said in a post above reports of anyone's wages can never be taken as accurate given they're never ever disclosed but here's one report on the way the deal was apparantly done
