In it to win it? You serious? Arsenal haven't won anything in 7 going in to 8 seasons. Strange comment tbh

    So what?
What is strange about wanting and expecting to win?
Being happy with Top 4 is all very well but I want to win it. We can and should aim higher. The fact that we have won nothing since 05 does not change my aspirations either. Also we have won it when other teams spent big in the past. The size of the cheque book should not and does not automatically win the league thank God.

Did last year for City and could well do this season for Chelsea.

but it didn't for Chelski or united who spent two, 10 teams can spend one can win it.

A club like Arsenal have to go into every season looking to win it

It might and it might not. It didn't for City the season before.
Winning the league is about formulating a winning mentality early on in the season and believing you can beat anyone. We've done that before with players who were not household names.

    Damn right.

I'm guessing some of the moaning is coming from people who thought we could challenge for the title this year.

Just give them a chance either way people. This should be a settled team for the next 2 -3 years. Stop judging them on two weeks.

I agree with your assertion about the unrealistic expectations from some folks- unless a miracle occurs, we are not winning the league this year and definitely not the Champions league. I would just be content with a top 3 finish and at worst 4th. It will be nice to get some kind of title though, carling cup or whatever just to get the players motivated.

Your second point I disagree with because we currently have a Carzola, Arteta who are almost in their 30s- basically in their prime and would want some sort of titles before they fade away. Santi is already been quoted as a brilliant signing for us this summer- we all know he would probably be the next to be hunted by the richer clubs and trust me he would gladly leave if he senses any lack of short term ambition.

This season should be about building a strong squad with purpose and translating those potentials to winning the league and getting to at least the C. League semis in 2014.

Wouldn't be that all those new players took a year to bed in and form an effective team under their new manager.

The new player thing does not seem to effect all teams, a pile of debutants scored last week. I already said weeks ago that it was a pity we didn't have more games before the start of the league but you have to do with what you have.

    Le boss knows

Wenger: "Then, at the beginning of last season, people said to me 'Why do you play RVP up front, he's not a centre-forward.'"

Wenger on Jamie Redknapp's criticism of Giroud and Podolski: "I've been in football everyday for 30 years, not everyone can say that."

Look at the merits of today's game. What a difference when it came to defence! Like Podolski was on fire when running back to claim the ball and showed some immense physical strength, I really thought it was Gibbs at time making those interceptions! A big difference from last year and definitely something that will prove fruitful for the bigger games. Giroud was also great at tracking back, winning the ball and moving the game forward.

I think physically, we are pretty much a better team than last year. Midfield was strong, I thought Diaby to be the weak link at parts. Thought he could've been sharper and more alert but considering it's his second outing, against Stoke!!! AWAY!!! and he's pretty much unscathed from that.

Would have liked Walcott and Ox to have come on earlier, by about 5 mins or so. They improved the bottleneck in attack and maybe if they had those extra minutes, something would have been pushed through.

Still though, Stoke played well. Those with high expectations of Arsenal are forgetting how well Stoke played today! They showed some better counter attacking football than Arsenal for some parts of the game but were pushed out for the majority. I don't think I saw Mannone in any one on one situations and no last gasp saves either.

Chelski may be 7 points ahead but tbh, that game against Reading was a freak result. I really couldn't see another squad (other than QPR) spurning a good result like that. Newcastle played cat the other night. A don't know if it was lethargy from the Europa match, but they looked pretty muggy on the pitch. Hazard, has pretty much been the stand out player for Chelsea thus far. I can't see them pushing at the same pace they're going at now. So I don't fear the fact that we are pretty much undefeated thus far in the league, have a much more physical attack, more co-ordinated defence and a midfield that's prepared to do more than give the ball to the wing.

Wenger's got the golden touch. Sent by Zeus to anoint the players of the future! I wonder how big his notebook of players throughout his career is!

Also, a big what if here but, Giroud's little acrobatic attempt at a shot today. I know it wasn't bang on the money but for a guy the commentators are now saying is low in confidence, pretty much negates their opinion! He's throwing himself in to everything pretty much and has added to play. This is a completely different game to his time at Montpellier. He could play and stay high at Montpellier and rely on the AM to feed him some great balls. Quite like Chamakh & Gourcouff at Bordeaux. If he comes good in the next few games, I think we've got our hands on a whole new type of Arsenal striker! Especially if he can come good with Podolski!

Adding young and welbeck to a title winning squad and adding Kagawa and RVP to a team that lost the title on goals scored is not, by any means, the same thing as adding three new players to the starting lineup and losing your most experienced attacker and midfielder.

But continue to pick holes, why should reality stop you.

Shame - and people were really using that to knock Wenger ? The mind boggles.

Personally I think no one should take J.Redknapp's comments seriously, bet he thinks there might be a potential opening for Da at the Emirates- well in his dreams.

I love Carzola and the way he has instantly made an impact but I just have that feeling that Giroud is going to be another Henry for us- essentially the best signing this summer.

Redknapp was very harsh on Poolski & Giroud
if they were British they would have been praised for there performances

I agree Jamie Redknapp has to be the worst football pundit around really is shocking although the lads on MOTD usually arent much better, the best one by a country mile who talks like a man educated in football and who its reallo pains me to admit is Gary Neville hated him as a player but as a pundit he fantastic.

Im liking Cazorla and Giroud myself but for me I was loving Podolski the most today they way he trakced back was not being bullied at all pushing players off the ball and when he did get hold of it you could tell he only had one thoguht get towards that goal as fast as possible taking on players linking up well with Cazorla etc admittedly he faded badly in the sconed half but id put that down to fitness.

Redknapp is just an idiot. With van persie going to United, there is a very easy story for the press to tell about how arsenal can't cope without him. Podolski had a very good first half yet at half time Redknapp had decided he was rubbish. Then again if Podolski was awful but managed to score, Redknapp would probably praise him. He's just a sh*t pundit in general.

Giroud I was less impressed with but you could hardly say he was awful.

    Redknapp is useless.

Read this morning's Arseblog. Quite interesting about Arteta playing the deeper role. It made me realise, had he been playing higher in the Diaby's position & we had a DM replacement already, we could've had a win yesterday.

I was looking over some of his appearances from last year and the amount he contributed to the midfield attack was unreal. We missed that a lot yesterday. We could've pushed more through the centre giving the wider guys more time to get into the box. Giroud would've had more opportunity as well. Diaby played well yesterday but I really think if Arteta played there and we had adequate cover for DM, it would've been a more fruitful game. Also, in hindsight, Gervinho could've played better and shown more responsibility for the ball. If we had a Ljungberg or a Pires in the same position, they would've made more from the same chances as Gervinho.
