Thought the referee was awful, gave nothing Liverpool's way and didn't even book Tevez when he took off his shirt after scoring. Daft rule I know, but it's a rule.

Borini was just like Kuyt out on the wing chased everything down and did not give the defence a minute rest.

I'd play Borini in the middle.

Mr. Alan will be losing a bet me thinks. Raheem was superb, we've a gem there for sure.

Ill let him pay up this week if he wants

Wow imaging a top class finisher at the head of the attack.

Now is the time to spend Mr Henry as the risk factor has just been halved.

Would have taken a draw at the start but the manner of the goals conceded leaves me disappointed.

Great performance today but my worry is defence.

Two games and 5 goals conceded. That needs to be improved upon.

2nd goal was just an error , that can happen.

1st goal was woeful defending in all areas.

Concerns surrounding Allen's fee dwindling rapidly. He looks a class act altogether.

Still quite perplexed about what Borini is bringing to the party.

Delighted for Sterling too, looks a hell of a player & still only 17. Madness. I'll be happy to lose that bet (although I'm not sure we have a bet, Melion didn't accept the terms...up to him if he wants to change his mind now).

Would've taken the point before the game but sick to gift them goals like that. Happy enough overall. Played some lovely stuff & the attitude of the team was great. Well done to Rodgers & the lads.

Re: the handball, I disagree with the way that rule is interpreted but when your arms are up like that to block, they're always given.

Should've definitely have a penalty to go 3-1 up too.

Really dissapointed with that, i've said before that Carra comes in for unfair criticism when it comes to Skrtle and today proved that he just has a mistake in him whoever he plays with. Apart from that, there was some good football played. I'm concerned about the lack of a cutting edge up front, Suarez spurned a really good chance today again.

Yeah this was the only thing that bothered me today. I thought him through the middle with Suarez on the right would have been much better. The only thing i can think is from a defensive point of view Borini did hunt and track down really well without the ball which I am sure was on Rodgers mind.

    Opr

Not at all, he was far too expensive and was a poor signing as his number was already in Rodger's mobile.

I'll admit to being one of those not impressed by the signing initially, I was crying out for no English players and the thought of paying 15 million for Allen was something I was completely against. But he has been impressive so far, and today he was so good that Lucas missing wasn't noticeable, hopefully he keeps it up.

Gutted at the result, as I said in the match thread I would have taken it at the start of the game but after it, it felt like we lost, a lot of positives to take from the game though. Raheem has pretty much cemented his place on the wing, he tired a bit towards the end though although it was his second game this week. Borini wasn't really up to speed but he had some good moments and most impressively that even when things were not going his way he didn't hide (loved seeing him trying to get the fans going). Suarez scored and seems to have a bit more trust in his team mates rather than trying everything himself. Allen as I already said was immense, and though Coates did well too. I am still not as fond of Shelvey as a lot of other posters and he was pretty average again today.

The downside is that the defence has been fairly sloppy, of the five goals we have conceded four of them have come from mistakes, and Skrtel has been responsible for three of them.

Confident of a result against Arsenal next week though, all we need to do is score one.:pac:

Coming into this game i would of said a draw would be an acceptable result.

But we were the better team always dangerous, unfortunatly our mistakes let them back into the game

Skrtel i love the man but thats twice in two weeks his awarness about the postion of oppostion players has been brutal resulting in goals.

However if this game is an idication of things to come then im optimistic, of finishing in a better positon this year, some investment in a poacher/finisher would be good.

Kelly at rb and Johnson at lb for me is our best option. Enrique is solid back up.
Coates throws his leg at players too much.

Impressed with the confidence and ability at playing the ball around in out own half but it doesn't suit Skrtel, so far.

Been so impressed with Allen and Shelvey looked like a different player from midweek.

    Reina not impressive today though.

Everything good has been covered so I'll get to the bad. Suarez needs a slap and told to cop the **** on. He should have had two yellows today. He's been booked twice and at this rate he'll be looking at two suspensions for yellow cards this season.

Also, who drops out now for Sahin?

These games are always a bonus. We need to get our points against the teams from 10th-20th.

Whether we can do that remains to be seen.

The 3-0 loss last season was about mistakes and getting caught out pushing for a win. We've done well in these games for a long time - they're often a bit of a coin-toss and settled by the odd mistake or set piece.

There's one difference this season - Sterling. He's done better than I dared hope at such a young age.
TBH though, if Downing had put in that performance we wouldn't be falling over ourselves in admiration. Sterling is one for the future. For the time being we can't expect all our cutting edge to come from a 17 year old.

If he can deliver bog-standard winger performances at his age that's impressive and it's a weapon we didn't have last season.

One thing that impressed me was our drive and running non-stop for 94 minutes. The team look like they're really up for it. Again, can they deliver the same "on a cold night at the Britannia"?

Again, individual errors aside for a moment. That was my biggest issue. Somewhat disappointed in the lack of interchanging between Suarez and Borini. Positions from the off seemed somewhat set.

Sterling did more today than Downing did all last season in the league.

Lucas Allen and sahin across the middle.

    Sterling right.

    Suarez left.

And up top I give you ... Stevie...

Jack Rodwell has absolutely no luck with refs when he plays Liverpool

Very encouraging performance from Liverpool today. A few school boy errors, but nothing that can't be ironed out. AT this stage of Rodgers reign, the performance has to take priority over the resut

What was the average age of the team that started? must of been pretty low

24.45 years old according to my calculations

Depending on how long Lucas is out he is ahead of Shelvey.

I thought Borini was poor enough - worked his arse off and some good movement but his actual use of the ball, particularly in the 1st half was pretty poor, I thought.

Thought Caroll was good when he came on. Good defensive cover for his header off the line.

    Fair point.

Possibly the other way round for those two in games against 'weaker' opposition, or those whose left backs won't maraud?

I'd still say Sterling tbh, with Gerrard moving up. No way he can play every game. Though if Lucas is out for a few weeks he can slot in beside Allen and Gerrard. Ye really need Borini up top.

Gerrard will still miss quite a few games I'd think, and Assaidi needs to slot in at some point too.

It was the wrong ball from Borini tbh, hitting it through the defenders legs & not ahead for him to run onto meant Suarez had to stall up & the defender was on top of him.

Tbh, if we've no one coming in, it's possibly our best option.

So hes the perfect replacement for Kuyt that people were calling for?

Starting midfield has to be Lucas-Allen-Sahin imo. So up front it should be Suarez plus two out of Borini, Gerrard and Sterling
