I never understand fans whinging when players leave. theres a food chain in football and clubs are always susceptible to being preyed upon from above.

Im sure all those clubs from whom Arsenal poach their kids from know how ye feel today.

It's not that he left; it's who he went to and more to the point; how they went about it. I'll never understand how people like yourself don't seem to understand that people have the right to be pissed off when a player leaves their club. What harm does it do?? People like/need to vent from time to time, let them off.

What a silly silly comment, how on earth do you know we wont win the title in the next few years???

What has RVP won in 8 years at Arsenal? Rooney had won the Champions League and the Premier League multiple times when he was linked with City. The situations are incomparable.

One set of fans say on the internet they want him to get injured.

The other set of fans go to his house and threaten to kill him.

    Incomparable indeed.

So where are Man Utd in this "food chain"?

Third in Europe behind Real and Barca.

Is this not just bull though?

What team can go on to win trophies if their best players keep forcing moves away? I think Arsenal stood a really good chance if RVP stayed. I'm definitely not going to put a bet on us now!

He moved for the money. £220,000 a week is insane. City wouldn't have topped it. ManU fans... HE. MOVED. FOR. THE. MONEY!

To say he moved for trophies is also bull. This is presumably Fergies last season (how old is he anyway, 98?!) and after he leaves I am going to laugh at Man U as they sink down the table, taking their "stars" with them. Ferguson is an incredible manager. Probably the best ever. I can't wait for him to retire ;)
Wheres your info on his wages coming from?

Above Arsenal. Below Madrid and Barca and probably City.

I would say probably below Chelsea as well.

Because the Arsenal squad isn't good enough to compete with United, City or Chelsea. Quite simple really.

Arsenal fans saying it would be like Liverpool fans saying Torres only moved to Chelsea for the money. He moved to win trophies, not for the money. Just like RVP

Do you think they match up with the 2 squads I mentioned? Arsenal have 1 world class player at a push(Vermaelen).

For one thing I thought we were talking about the next 3 - 4 years. For another let's see how the season pans out and we can judge who is World Class - what does that mean anyway ?

It's more about where a club's star players would go.

Mark Hughes to Barcelona and Ronaldo and David Beckham to Real Madrid are the only examples I can think of United players "moving up in the world". And Beckham was "sold".

Everyone else (e.g. Tevez, Ince, Stam) was allowed to leave and move sideways at best rather than to "bigger clubs".

As was already mentioned earlier, leagues arent won on paper. You dont have to have a squad full of "world class" players, football is more complicated than that, otherwise we may as well hand Man City the title already. Anything can change in football, just look back at the last 7 years!

Well he got ye champions league footbal this season and waited around while other stars were sold off. He's coming into the last decent years of his career and wants to win something. Re the mercenary thing, he could have gone to city on presumably higher wages, he wanted to leave arsenal but it wasnt all about them dollas

City weren't willing to pay the transfer fee United paid for him considering his injury record and age.

Chelsea finished two places BELOW arsenal the season just gone. Chelsea have strengthened, but so have Arsenal. Arsenal can't compete with City no but I doubt United will either this year especially considering they just blew a load of money on a striker they don't need rather than the couple of midfielders and experienced centre back they do need. The fact that Scholes and Giggs are the best midfielders at the club along with Vidic not being fully fit yet is pretty worrying imho. If the new signings settle in quick I genuinely think Arsenal have a stronger squad than united this year.

According to Fergie Arsene could "run a poker school in Govan", so good are his negotiation skills. Now that's something I'd really like to see.

Ha ha thats the first thing i thought of when i heard VP's latest bulls*it.

To be fair i think we got a good deal for him so long as we reinvest but we are not flahulach in that regard. It will probably keep Hillwood and the boys stocked up on brandy and cigars for a while though

In a way I suppose we should be grateful to Man U for stumping up the cash. Where would we be if they hadn't ? - back to City and Juventus to accept 15 million -

Or would we have forced a player Arsene no longer wanted and who didn't want to be here to stick out another season? that could have proved very unsettling for the squad.
