Hello, I noticed my sister was wearing a Fortis Ladies Automatic watch the other night. She said it was belong to my late mother and it was bought over 30yrs ago in Switzerland

She is having a few problems with it in that it has to be constantly wound. I also said to her that it could be expensive and to get it valued for insurance purposes.

Is there any specialist in Cork that could have a look at it for her and also to give a rough value on it?

Are they a good Swiss make?

Fortis are a good Swiss make and they make some really nice stuff; particularly with pilot-style watches and chronographs. On the minus side ladies' watches don't tend to hold their value in the secondhand market; not entirely sure why that is but it's probably true to say that there are fewer female collectors out there. Unless it's made of precious metal it's unlikely to be worth a huge amount but it's worth getting it looked at; I believe there's a sticky about recommended watch repairers.

LL - check the sticky for details of Watch repairs.

Additionally, you could try Stokes on McCurtain St - 021 4551195.

There's also a guy on Magazine Rd in Glasheen - he has been there for years.
