I heard a really good dead baby joke recently so if anyone wants to hear it, PM me. If you don't, then don't PM me and get mad if you don't like the joke.

    srsly though it's really funny.

I shall PM you, you shall PM me the joke, then I shall get angry and attempt to ruin your life.

    Fair enough.

See my post before this one:

Either everything goes (except blatant hatred towards other races etc) or they do have to moderate FB.

I think its funnier the guy was exposed for telling dead baby jokes :D

What's funny about it? That he's getting his for trying to be funny?

That said, I just told a nice simple joke on the dead baby joke page to see the reaction.

My joke was "Do you know who doesn't get offended by dead baby jokes? Dead Babies"

2 people calling me ugly, one saying I should be on Jeremy Kyle, and the only one using proper spelling and grammar is the person who found it funny.

That's something I find really funny. Apparently it's dumb people can't separate jokes from reality. :)

OK, but what if my dead baby joke involved killing a baby or some actions that lead to the death of a baby? I'm guessing that joke, based on actions is still OK, whereas a similar 'kill gay people' isn't....

So, is it OK to have a dead gay people jokes thread about how, through acts of homosexuality these people died and if so why not?

Well the "kill all fags" page would be more along "kill them for being gay" and outright condoning murder.

No, it wouldn't be okay on Facebook I don't think, it'd be considered hate speech since you're essentially saying "if you're gay and you die, it's your fault for being gay".

Or at least I think that's what your post was about.

What I find so ridiculous about the "dead baby jokes" page, is that I wouldn't even know about the bloody page if it wasn't for all the people trying to get it shut down on my FB feed. If everyone had just ignored it, it wouldn't have gone viral and so the whole world would not have been offended.

You know what the funniest part is though?

The fact that the same thing cropped up a month ago and it was thousands of Irish people with their piss-poor use of a keyboard ranting and raving giving us all a horrible name.

Calling for the death of people for whatever they are is not a joke.

Telling a joke about the death or dying can be offensive, but humorous. I'm not gonna pretend to be a moral authority, but basically if you are calling for the death of people because you hate something about them, you're bad in my book. If you tell a joke about it, it's either funny or not, but can't really complain.

Yeah kind of! But you can apply the same thing to dead babies - or at least in way of perhaps offending a mother who carried a baby that died or was still born..

Yeah, but it's not a joke. It's not a practical joke, it's just ratting someone out because you are upset by something they said which calls for no harm to anyone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,400 ✭✭✭Medusa22

Never heard of the dead baby jokes until people got offended. They are jokes, they aren't inciting hatred. It is quite stupid to post them on a public page with all of your personal information though. They are hypothetically dead babies, I presume, so why should anybody be offended? Unless you are insane and have an imaginary friend who happens to be one of these hypothetically dead babies, in that case it is unfortunate.

The joke about gay people (hypothetical) is not about calling for the death of them.

They were jokes (again, hypothetical) about death or dying, but instead of babies, they're gay people.

Sure, it would depend how to you tell the jokes, but you can tell jokes about the death of gay people without projecting a view that you personally think they should be killed or whatever.

Not exactly, it's kinda different, I hope :o

Let's say I'm gay and I have sex with a man and I get an STD. And someone posted a page saying "all fags will die from STDs for being fags". That's gone from "joke" to hate speech and wouldn't be allowed.

Now if for example it was say... a woman that was raped and chose to try to have the baby and it was a miscarriage and the page was something like "raped women should abort otherwise the babies will die", then yes it's the same thing.

But posting the dead babies jokes are kinda akin to you falling off a 500ft building and dying and people posting jokes about people dying from falling from high heights.

    And now I hope I didn't confuse you :p

What he's doing is not illegal.

So Ben Hey has taken it upon himself to try and ruin this persons life (who isn't breaking the law) because he dislikes the contents of the jokes being made.

Furthermore, this is also being done so that Ben Hey receives adulation from the rest of the morons who dislike the content of the website.

He's effectively dressing up an attention seeking/glory-hunting action as some kind of moral duty.

A complete scumbag who wants the world to dance to his tune, and if it doesn't he will use intimidating tactics to make it the way he wants.

    ****ing scumbag.

It's the undue persecution of someone for speaking their mind. To me that's sicker than the jokes.

Well in fairness if there is something I dont like reading, I dont read it. Or if there is something on TV that may offend me I obviously wouldnt watch it. Its a very simple theory really but works suprisingly well.

I have seen the page 'dead baby jokes' on facebook popping up on my news feed from time to time, with people requesting likes to get it shut down.

However, one person seems to have taken it to a new level.

This person has taken a screen shot of one individuals very abusive and disgusting references to babys, and is emailing the persons university, workplace, and his local poilce station with the comments he made.

Has the person reporting them gone too far?

    Judge for yourself.

Definitely, it's all fun and games really, they aren't actually hurting anyone, and nobody is forced to look at the page

I wonder, out of those 50,000+ people who liked Ben's comment plus those commenting on it watch South Park / Family Guy, animations that specialise in black humour.

Anyways, where the picture / comments Sam made?

No, you can find undue persecution funny I suppose. But that is what it is, whether you find it funny or not.

I don't think it should happen, and I'm not happy to let it happen, because it has a tangible effect on a mans life, unlike the telling of a simple joke.

Of course they do, but if the TV says it from a socially popular source then it's ok. There is no thought process going on with them, it's just blind mob rage, it's the kind of thing that got Jesus killed.

as long as they're not actually killing babies what is the problem? Why don't westboro baptist church get in the trouble this person will get in?

The jokes are just proving that people get offended far too easily. It's a joke, fcuk off and hide their post on facebook if you wish

do you have the same attitude towards people watching child porn?
as long as they're not the ones abusing the children, whats the problem?

edit: before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, this post was a pisstake....

thats fair enough, do i think its fair, no but i do think its funny.

i could just imagine trying to explain to my boss what i was doing posting dead baby jokes :pac:

the link wont load on my phone. was the guy posting the jokes doing it annoymously?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,449 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

People gettin offended by this and posting on the page are fúcking idiots. A couple of people on my friends list on Facebook also commented on the page saying it should be taken down. It infuriated me but I didn't bother replying because those people can barely spell their own name and you could never win an argument with them because they can't comprehend any argument which doesn't go along with their opinion.
The bottom line is this guy did nothing wrong. If you don't like the jokes...don't read them. Simple as that.
If these people put as much effort into protesting against this government we might actually get somewhere, but no, they're all imbeciles.

Or maybe because the jokes are about innocent cuddly babies, everyone knows that they are jokes and cannot be taken in anyway seriously. Whereasif they were about other groups, those hearing them might think that jokes about people of other races, cultures, genders etc could be just covering up the posters own prejudices.

Pretty much this. Blonde jokes and ginger jokes fall into the same category, although not everyone would agree on the latter.

How is Ben Hay going to ruin this guy's life though - it seems all he's doing is alerting some people to the fact that he's posting jokes. Should his employer or university fire/expel him for this?
