iMac upgrades

    Hi all,

Decided to stick to my 27" i5 iMac but want to upgrade it a little bit.

I will start with memory. Will want to put 16GB in there. I checked crucial.eu

    They suggest this set:

    16GB kit (8GBx2)
    DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT3327392

    for 158.39 euro

But to be honest they have also this set:

    8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT3309275

    for 49.19 euro

So I can get 16GB for 98.38 euro - which is a nobrainer really but I was just wondering is there any difference in performance between having 16GB as 2x8 or 4x4 ?

Once I have my ram here and see how this is running I will be looking at getting SSD drive in and perhaps replacing this 1TB drive that I now have.

This will all be done through compub as I don't want to void my warranty and I don't have enough expertise to do it anyway. I will provide compub with my own drives, but what should I get ?

I am thinking 256 SSD for system and then maybe 2TB for storage. Any suggestions here ? I'm not sure what are the RPMs of this drive I have now. But is 2TB 5400RPM good choice noise/temperature wise ?

I will be selling this machine in 6 months time anyway as I want to get the new iMac once they're released.

    Thanks!
