    or Allen forces the move.

    Really unprofessional from Pardew.

My impression of that is that Swansea know that the players who have played under Rodgers really like him as a manager and probably would move to his new club quiet easily if they could.

Therefore they put this clause in to try to stop him stealing a few players who are probably on quite low wages.

However, the new manager may not be a linked to the old players as Rodgers was. Don't know in this case. But given that Laudrup is already buying a few new players another 10 -15m in his kitty probably sounds good to him, given that he probably doesn't really know Allen.

I'd say if the new manager decides to sell then that contract situation may go out the window.

ya if this were footy manager skrtel would be at city and Mbiwa would be here but it's just not that easy in the real world...

In the real world where very average players like Jordon Henderson and Andy Carroll can be sold for huge money anything is possible.:D

£10 million and Shelvey Adam on loan is a fair price in my opinion.

Apparently the first offer was 15 mill and Downing on loan

Don't want to lose Shelvey on loan, but would be delighted to have him spend 12 months with Laudrup

Shelvey has promise but realistically he won't get much game time with us this season. If he spent the season at Swansea and got 30 or so games under his belt, we would know whether he'll be a Liverpool player or not.

There's no gaurantee that Shelvey would get 30+ games at Swansea though.

Sure, he'd probably be nailed on 4th choice but i'd say Britton/De Guzman/Michu would be the starting midfield 3.

I hope he's gone because he's been a pain in the arse.
More comments from him about taking a paycut to go back to Roma.
Its not worked out and just to put an end to the whole situation I'd like him gone sooner rather than later.

It does probably mean that we'd need yet another midfielder.

We'll have Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Spearing, Adam and Henderson, in a 3 man midfield.

We'd probably have the numbers but Gerrard is probably going to miss half the season and in terms of filling his role as the more advanced of the 3, only adam really fits the bill. Henderson will probably be rotated in for Lucas and Allen and Spearing should be kept in reserve if we're really stuck.

If nobody gets injured at all then grand. But they will and then our midfield wont be up to much.

Well he's back at his former club today so I presume he was probably directly asked the question if he would have liked to return which he's hardly going to answer any other way with it being his hometown club.

Allen played that role a fair bit at Swansea, especially in the first half of the season.

It's been 2 years of this though. He may have excuse with the latest quotes(I don't agree) but he himself and his agent have been mouthing off more than Dave Whelan the last 2 summers

We'll have the same number of midfielders as we did last season (Shelvey's short loan notwithstanding) but we'll be playing with a 3 rather than 2.

We're still short a midfielder in the squad, unless Pacheco or Cole (shudder) would be considered for the Gerrard spot, and one injury away from being in trouble.

What about Dempsey if he comes?

That cant be true. Even 15m plus Downing on loan sounds like bollox.

Lucas, Allen, Gerrard first choice. Henderson first line of backup. whoever is left of Spearing, Adam, Aquilani, Pacheco, Suso and Shelvey to act as backup. I reckon that's plenty

One injury to Lucas and the remaining options are as lacking in steel as they were last season. Allen is not going to play the Lucas role, and the rest showed last season that none of them can bring anything close to what Lucas can in midfield.

Take Lucas out, and we are left with plenty in terms of quantity but little by way of defensive/play breaking quality.

I think Allen will play the Lucas role, he looks to have very good defensive attributes to me.
