Another PR cock-up with Dempsey, just what we needed. If another club did that to us we'd be raging!

Remember him from when he was a young player in France. Has talent, but seemed to level off after his move from Lille to Saint-Etienne.Close control was good as was his passing and movement. The emergence of Eden Hazard did not help him at Liile to be fair, and he was never going to displace Hazard from the first team.

By all accounts he has looked very good in Greece, but there was always something about him that made me think that mentally he was suited to leagues where the tempo is that bit slower, think it was the fact that he often had to stall for a second before playing a ball despite an obvious outlet being available, but in terms of ability on the ball he would make for solid squad cover anywhere across the attacking positions.

Well I'm glad you took it in the spirit it was meant anyway. And I'm sorry for going off topic but the topic was goin around in horrible circles for quite a few pages when I read his comment about cars and it brought some much needed relief.

i think he has matured more so
played well against England much better than Hazard

Maybe as the season goes on, but I reckon when the season starts that Carragher will be the CB on the bench and Coates will be the one in the stands.

I reckon Rodgers already knows (like most people) that Carra is well over the hill and that Coates needs to be given games ahead of him immediately.

He did play better in the recent international game against England than Hazard did alright. But would take more than that one game to make me think he was even half the player that Hazard is.

For the right money, and the figure being spoken about is in the £6m -£7m range, I think that Mirallas could be decent squad cover or competition for the main first teamer, and would give us a bit more depth in the attacking positions.

Would be a bit concerned if he came in as a first team purchase though.

Knowing something and actually acting on something don't always go hand in hand.

Personally I would make Coates the number 3 centre back at the club, but I can see reasons as to why Rodgers would make Carragher the number 3 at first.

Hope that Rodgers goes your way though as it would be a statement of intent from the manager and the kind of ruthless streak that is needed.

I love how people (not just you) are assuming that Rodgers will do this or that in relation to players when we have no idea what he has in mind. If no one is sold, it's very likely that Agger and Skrtel will be first choice cb pairing, but again I wouldn't be certain of that either. He may not fancy Coates as a player, and might buy into the whole scouse heart of Carra theory. Who knows?

I know it SS but anyway.......is he worth it do you reckon or is he another Charlie Adam?

Sky Sports understands Liverpool are preparing to make a bid for Swansea midfielder Joe Allen.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Allen when he was in charge at the Liberty Stadium last season.

Although there has been talk of an agreement that Rodgers would not raid his former club, financial reality dictates that Swansea would be forced to consider significant interest in their players.

Liverpool are yet to bid for the 22-year-old Wales international but, after missing out on Gylfi Sigurdsson, indications are that the Reds are ready to firm up interest and test Swansea's resolve.

Allen is currently on Olympic duty with Team GB after enjoying a hugely impressive debut season in the Premier League.

One big difference would be that Joe Allen suits the system, rather than the system being completely built around him as was the case with Adam at Blackpool.

I like Allen, and do think he would do a great job for us, but at 15m I'm not so sure I'm comfortable with the price tbh.

I've never heard so many people go on as much about a "system" like they're authorities in the subject when in reality the manager has said systems change depending on players available & no one knows how we're gonna be lining up or playing next season!

I was on about the Swansea setup last year and the relevance of Allen to it... Allen excelled in a team that wasn't built around him.

Adam was made look good by having the team built around him.

But its not a million miles away from saying that if signed, Allen would play the same role for Liverpool. In fact, it would be common sense and would probably help Rodgers bed his ideas across to the team having a player familiar to his tactics and ideas in such a central role.

I'd have to agree, people also using Barcelona as an example is embarrasing also.

Where's the figure of £15m coming from, it's not in the Sky Sports article?

Imo Allen's got something about him far more than most of the British youngsters, but at that price you could get a young player several rungs higher up the ladder.

I've seen that figure in a few articles the last few weeks. Seen upwards of that figure quoted too. All speculation of course.

Adam was good for us too until Lucas got injured.

Was our "system" built around him?

I know very little about Allen, but our transfer targets this season are seemingly as uninspiring as they've ever been. Dempsey? Borini? Allen? Are we aiming to cement our place in mid-table or bridge the gap to the teams above us?! :(

Without that wheelbarrow of money, I'd be astounded if we paid north of £10M for him. Maybe a deal with Spearing on loan or something, to sweeten it? Not Shelvey though...

Sky have gotten precisely NOTHING right so far.

Went downhill fairly rapid after Lucas was out alright.
