Why do people hate solicitors and barristers?

    Seriously curious.

Dressing like a transvestite does some of 'em no favours

the shop assistant that asked me for proof of age TO DO THE LOTTO. (I'm 21)

Im sorry you've had such bad experiences with them. Some of course are clowns but any of the lads/girls I know are dead sound i.e. would always be the first to get the round in and have no sense of entitlement.

I hope to be a hospital doc some day - I dont mind people having a bad opinion of the profession as it's a thankless job by times but someone has to do it

    You seem a decent sort.

I'm sure they'll knock the corners off ya quick enough!:D

    Farmer dies without a will

Two brothers go to court over the title to the farm

    Question: who gets the farm?

    Answer: the lawyers ;)

A married couple get separated/divorced. The solicitors turn it into a boxing match that lasts years.

Op asked what "professionals" do we hate most. Since when are either of these professionals ?
That's not a profession, more of a cry for help/attention.

Although I would call it an unskilled trade, not a profession.
What they call a job, most people do on their way to a real job.
It's a skilled job imo, unless you only work in a certain area under supervision then you're semi skilled.

It's not a snob thing, I just wouldn't class the likes of a mechanic as a professional, would you?

What's with the lack of acknowegement for people's jobs here? I'm sorry, but if its not a snob thing, well then its just plain ignorance. A profession is anything which someone does to make a living. Did you's never hear of a professional musician, a professional cyclist, a professional soldier, a professional thief? Do you think that you have to wear a suit to be called a professional? The word professional comes from the word "professor", ie someone qualified in a certain area to that level. Nowadays it just means someone who is proficient enough at whatever they do that they can make a living at it, whereas Joe Soap who isn't as knowelegable, cant. Sure the oldest "profession" of them all is prostitution!

I've been in various gym's over the last twenty five plus years and have never seen a fat gym instructor, I think you're just saying that tbh.

Mostly liars, mostly no experience of the job they're recruiting for. One of those professions which are hard to understand what value they add. Money for nothing. Seem to pull up CV's from keyword seaches, not read them and then send out unsolicited emails in relation to irrelevant jobs. Cannot stand the 'I'm your best buddy' routine.

I'd completely disagree with you there.

The only people who would use the term 'professional musician' would be musicians themselves. The same goes for every other example you give, bar professional soldier, which is a career soldier(someone who rises through the ranks). In the same way you can't be a professional plumber, carpenter or electrician.

There is a distinction between professions, trades and unskilled/semi-skilled labour. Sure even by definition a profession requires specialised high educational training. Your problem is that you attach a level of status or snobbery to the word professional.

And even you have the sense to put quotation marks around the last "profession".

You know, I've got nothing particularly against GPs. In fact, I'll have revise my opinion really, because most GPs I've come across are pretty decent individuals. I don't know for sure, but GPs probably make up most of the profession as well.

But I still hate the rest of that medical shower. Hospital doctors, ugh.

You could look at it that way. As I say, it's the way they act outside of work that annoys me. There is a certain: "I'm a doctor, pay me tribute" attitude that is particular to doctors.
Agreed - every doc i've ever met has this ''I'm a doctor, let you pay'' attitude, and when there isn't a bill to be paid it's ''I'm a doctor, can you mind my kids / fix my car / do my accounts for free?''.

    I just avoid them now.

However there are neighbours of mine who are both doctors, and they are always fighting over who pays for what - both consultants too, so no shortage of money. The tight gits are always at each others throats - happy days.

Better not say any more in case someone identifies them or me...

Yeah I see a lot of that with the docs I work with. I don't know if it just docs or are other highly paid professions like that too. The highest paid profession I work with are docs so I don't know if other professions are like that too.

You can't compare a taxi driver to a train driver or pilot

It's an unskilled and uneducated job.

    You ignored Bus drivers.
I don't know if you have ever been in the cab of a train but there is nothing special to it, it is not more skilled (infact it is probably less skilled) than driving on the roads for hours at a time. Just because the majority of people know how to drive a car does not make it any less of a skill.

People complain about the car conditions and the look of the drivers, then move down the que of the rank until you find a car that suits you.
If you do not like a driver called from a base, then ask for a different car. Services will not improve by people moaning on the internet.

A fall back job?? Outlay for a car and maintenance, VERY long and unsociable hours, w@nker customers looking down on them, set fares, no repeat custom, low customer turnover with very little chance for repeat custom. It is not a job, you are setting up your own mini business and all the headaches that come with that. It is not something that I would do ever.

The majority of trouble, these days, comes from the fact that they are overworked and underpaid. There are too many "part-time" drivers that just do not give a crap. There should be a minimum amount of hours to be worked, this would remove the weekenders and teachers in summer that do not know routes, areas and have poor cars.

There are plonkers, that drive, but you get that in every workforce. think of how many taxi trips that you have taken, in your life, and now tell me how many truely bad experiences that you have had, in relation to the total figure.

So have I & yes I reconsidered the fat after I wrote it. They annoy me for a whole host of different reasons, the main one being that the only consistency with them is that they all contradict each other.

Gym instructors aren't fat, you are right, but many many nutritionists or 'diet experts' are.

    Taxi drivers.
It actually makes me sick to pay someone €12 for 5 minutes of driving.

Its the talking sh*te to a complete stanger I cant stand, just drive the fcukin car

    From personal experience the most negative people/job positions I've come across and in no particular order are;

    Taxi drivers.

Bar managers (little Hitlers most of 'em).

    Bouncers (most are ****).

    Bus drivers.

And like most other's here ~ Doctors, mostly let down by their stinking, arrogant attitudes to people.

    You ignored Bus drivers.

I'd consider them professional due to
    a) their polite safety driven attitude to other road users
    b) they are accountable to Dublin Bus/Bus Eireann, not self employed and answerable to the nobody
think of how many taxi trips that you have taken, in your life, and now tell me how many truely bad experiences that you have had, in relation to the total figure.

I hate them as a driver, not as a customer.
Here's the sort of aggressive driving we come to expect from them.
Putting the boot down at the lights to undertake another car.

Lecturers. Most are condescending a**holes with a very high sense of entitlement due to having a PhD.

I had one of my lecturers moan that she had to do 2 more hours practical lab work with students due to The Croke Park Agreement. Considering this brought her hours up to 27 a week, she can't complain.

I wouldn't say I hate any, but I do always feel like tradesmen such as electricians/plumbers are trying to con you out of extra money. Ones we've had in seem to charge a fortune and then whatever they've "fixed" never seems to be done right....

you know that scene is lock stock and two smoking barrels where they realise there's a traffic warden in the back of the van and proceed to give him a shoeing? Replace traffic warden with :

HR staff, Project Managers, Hospital Doctors.

I love taxi drivers, I wind them up with all sorts of stories.:pac:

    No show tradesmen

I listen to Joe Duffy, I hear ye crying over the lack of work and how you are in debt

Yet I've called people from golden pages, they tell me they are coming, I book time off work and they leave me waiting like a fool

And then they phone at 7pm and make it seem as if it's my fault!
I've already used some of my annual leave, I'm not using anymore on a no show tradesman

Human Resources. The most heartless people on earth.

I've always wondered what it is that makes someone decide that HR is the life for them. Do you figure out that the only thing you have going for you is the fact that you're an uttter c**t?
