Rodgers reasons for not wanting Carroll don't add up. Particularly when it looks increasingly likely Joe Cole has a future at the club. Shocking :(

Carra has been name checked by Rodgers since he got the job as an amazing player, someone he's looking forward to working with & someone who has a huge role to play for us next season.

I'd be amazed if Rodgers isn't doing everything he can to get Cole out of the club. Aquilani as well. Carragher if he could (he can't)

All drains on our wage bill.

Carroll isn't a drain on our wage bill, but if he's not going to play regularly (ie: if he doesn't fit in the manager's plans) then he will be a drain

And have all the locals baying for blood? Never...

While he was at is, tell the media that he didn't care for the Beatles, and that Bob Paisley was a git...

A great addition to the training staff surely.

There's a huge difference between the skills your striker need and the skills your defender need, I thought that would be obvious.

Point taken, however positioning, passing from the back, high defense line etc used in Rodgers system leaves Carra as CB extremely vunurable and not quite suited....IMO

So your basing his reasons on conjecture rather than facts or quotes.......gotcha.....

You may wish to look up the word conjecture.

1: Article written on Carroll's stats - fact.
2: Manager saying everyone at the club will get a chance, again fact.
3: Similar player played in his Swansea team last year, again fact.

Don't think anyone was suggesting playing Carragher up front.

When Rodger's says that every player at the club will get a chance, you can't seriously take that at face value?

Imagine the constraints that would place him under this summer.

No, we can't sell X, Y or Z, even though I know them well as footballers, because I need to "give them a chance" whether that be in training or in friendlies or in competitive matches.

Fact is he knows these players better than any fan because he has all the analytical tools in the world available to him.

I'm amused by the idea of a backlash if Carra doesn't play - even the "home town boys" hothouse of RAWK cannot wait to see the back of Jamie. The only angle Rodgers would need to think about is who would take his place ie not Coates but Sama, Wilson or AN Other (new).

    Its MrAlans Fact rant.........lol

    1. I posted that article. It doesn't quite prove anything.
    2. Please provide quotes where he said he doesn't want Andy and he wont be given a chance
    3. That is far from a fact.

Would be a very brave move by Rodgers if he tried to phase Carragher out straight away as he would need a very good start to his managerial career to avoid the backlash, and I would guarantee that a certain journo or two would be beating the drum through their pieces in the paper.

Carragher and a good start? :D

While i generally like Dempsey (incident with Bellamy last season excepted) neither him nor Borini excite or fill me with renewed optimism for the season ahead (no more than Adam/Henderson/Downing did last season). If we are signing a player that will excite us by the very fact that he has signed, I hope it's not one of those. They may well excite me with their play, but they don't excite me by virtue of having signed.

    Agree.

Personally, as I've noted before, Dempsey is a hero of mine and I'll be delighted to roar him on. My type of player - Big Heart personified.

But these signings are very much alligned with where we are now. Suarez seemed like a player that could hold his own at the very top tier clubs - that's why he was such an "exciting" acquisition.

There was a quote from Rodgers a week or so ago saying one of our signings would really excite the fans.

I presume what 5starpool means is that so far, he's not excited by who we've signed / are supposed to sign. Yes, they might play well on the field, and excite us there, but who we've signed so far hasn't been exciting. If we signed Messi for example, we'd all be excited the moment we heard of the signing...

That makes less sense....so ye want a player that excites you because of his name and what he looks like?

If you know they will excite you playing, isn't that the point?

jasonb is correct. Neither Dempsey nor Borini, based on what I know, excite me from the point of view of looking forward to them playing for Liverpool. I don't know they will excite me playing, that's the point. They may turn out to, but at the moment I am not yet whelmed, possibly even underwhelmed ;).

If we sign someone who is a known top drawer or well known exciting talent I will be excited at the prospect of seeing him play in a red shirt, but neither Borini nor the as yet unconfirmed Dempsey do that for me at this point.

Because there are obvious comparisons. Players who don't fit into the managers style of play. Besides without having Big Andy to lump ito up to, what good is Carragher. He's gonna get beaten for pace, give away penalties and scream at players who are better than him to cover up for it.

    Exactly.

I like the names being linked and I also like the idea of getting £20 million for Carroll but I don't like were the managers eye is when looking at target signings.

There is value out there. Yes buy players that you had at youth level and believe in. But I would just like to be linked with someone outside the PL proven bracket and who would "excite "

Sure it could be up for debate. But thats how Rodgers could play it. If there is such a backlash waiting for Rodgers if he phased Carragher out, than Rodgers can make it look like Carragher is 5th choice CB for the money, instead of developing himself in a coaching role.

Well without having big Andy to lump it up he might just pass it sideways from now on.

WTF is happening in this thread? Has it finally happend? Have i lost my mind?

I dunno, I just thought his analogy of the cars going different directions was hilarious!! I mean, come on, cars go different directions all the time, it was a terrible analogy and made me laugh but no one picked up on it...maybe it's just me...

Kind of missed the point there...they are all on the same side of the road?

I was suggesting that Mr Alan thinks one thing, and almost everyone else thinks something different, but he thinks we are all wrong and he's the only right one...

Ah ya but you were unclear about that. Sure getting all riled up cos Mr Alan is "crazy" is like getting pissed off about the sound of chips riffling in a casino!! :P

What do training staff earn? Maybe £100K a year as opposed to £100K a week..? ;)

Kevin Mirallas would be a perfect signing for us
as he can play as a CF & a Left or Right Winger

Is 'he has been good in Greece' not the footballing equivalent of 'we're very big in Japan' ?

Another Jova waiting to happen !

Seems a very good player. I think we need a player with that kind of attitude.
