Closing an AIB account

I'm a student here in Ireland but at the end of August I'll be headed back to the US and I was wondering what it take to close my AIB student bank account? By that point there won't be much money it my account but I'd like to make sure it's all closed out.

Also, right now I have direct debit for internet and utilities coming out of it. I've worked out things with the companies but will I be able to close the account if there are still direct debits on the account?

    Thanks!

If you close the account the dd s wll just go unpaid, better to cancel them first. You just write a letter to your branch with the date you want the account closed and they will do it. Either transfer any balance out by that date or they will transfer it to any other aib account you have.
