No doubt about it. Team really missed his simple leadership after he got injured.

Well Stevie can't go on forever and I can't see a better candidate to replace him. In fact I would make him vice captain when Carra finally hangs up his boots, although I'd imagine that'll go to Reina or Agger if either of them are still here at that point. Personally I hate keepers being captain. Agger could do it, sure, but for me Lucas, if he refinds and holds his form, is the outstanding candidate to replace Stevie. That's how highly I rate him/how lowly I rate everyone else for the job (whichever way you wanna look at it).

Talk is that he's on about 60k and to sign a new contract with Arsenal he's after 100k

That`s grand. He wont be joining us so.

Well that is the worst news I have had all day TBH. Off to bed to sulk now.

Ah we could do a lot worse than Walcott and in fairness we have done alot worse than him on the wings for almost 20 years now!! If he can be gotten for a reasonable fee I say bring him along.

I think you're being somewhat harsh on Strootman tbh. He's a box to box midfielder who can play deeper or further forward if needed. I really believe he's someone who'd compliment Lucas well. In saying that, I still dream of us signing Nuri :)
    Blatter wrote: »
You don't rate Strootman that highly? Think he's a fantastic player myself, and at 22 he's only going to get better. A proper all round midfielder with very good passing ability.

You're right, I am being harsh. I guess it's just the vast quantity of midfielders we have, that I'm reluctant for us to add anyone other than a guaranteed "sure thing" to walk into the starting 11 and put what we have to shame (like the aforementioned Sahin would imo)

But yes, he would still be an improvement on anyone else we have to sit in beside Lucas.

Would be absolutely fantastic particularly if we get Dempsey in too. If we get rid of Kuyt, Maxi, Aqualini, Cole, Carroll I'm pretty sure we'd save on wages for Borini, Mertens, Strootman, Walcott and Dempsey.
If we are going to bring Walcott to Anfield, then he is going to be on as much money as the likes of Kuyt, Maxi or many of the people that he is replacing (think about £80k a week).

    I shudder to think.

After some of his "performances" last season he should be paying us for the privilage of pulling on the red shirt.

Also, Malaga are apparently looking to offload Isco and Cazorla. Even if it goes no further, I'd expect the club to make enquiries. 2 excellent players.
I would say there is zero chance of either player being with us this sesaon.

Oh and in other news, with John Terry being equitted we now get a chance to see if the Fa are in fact consistent with their actions or if Suarez was in fact unfairly targeted and 'made an example of'. I know I'll be watching with interest and I'm betting on a lack of action from them.

A Loan fee of 5 million, they pay all his wages for the year and an agreement to pay 20 million regardless of how he performs this season, 25 million if he scores more than 10 league goals and 30 million if he scores more than 15 league goals and i'd consider it
We are not exactly in the position to be making demands for Carroll considering the fact that he was a failure for us last season and has pretty much already been shown the exit door by the current manager.

Has he been shown the door ???
Where are you getting your info and if you link to a RAG or Twitter then your more a fool to listen to it.

What's wrong with Robinho(apart from his aversion to scoring from two yards) ?
Robinho is undoubtedly a player with a ridiculous amount of talent, but the problem is that he has ZERO consistency. I remember watching him at Real/City/Milan and he could be almost Messi like with the ability to win a game almost single-handedly. Other times though, he can be absolutely dreadful. When Robinho isn't in the mood to play, you might as well play with 10 men, he is that terrible.

If we could get Robinho on a season long loan somehow, then I would definitely take him. I doubt it will ever happen, because we simply cannot afford his wages (think £100k+ a week).

Borini has already been signed and it's blatantly clear that Dempsey is currently being pursued by us.

I am tired of repeating myself on Carroll, but when the manager is publicly quoted at pimping out Carroll to a club for the forthcoming season, then it should be blatantly obvious that he doesn't figure in his plans.

I know we paid a ridiculous amount of money for Carroll, but it's time we accept that we will never get anywhere near that amount of money back. Not now, not ever.

there would have been a statement or some comment saying Carroll was staying if he was
this speculation has been rife the last 5/6 days

thats why i was asking earlier has he or the other players at the euros rejoined the squad yet for training?
If the man is on his break still they probably arent hounding him for a statement etc.

As everyone is saying we will never get that money back, but theres nothing wrong with having him still in the squad , id rather have him on the bench than selling him for buttons.

there not back for training yet
but Rodgers says he spoke to Andy already
& Carroll hasn't said a word about it so i do think he is going

Yeah I've heard Carroll has said he would rather stay with Liverpool and not even play than leave

I think hes trying to prove a point, going on the back end of the season id like to see him stay, but on the season as a whole it makes me nervous still.

I don't believe for one second he'd want to go, not now. He would be branded a failure, he'd have to go back to Newcastle with that hanging around his neck. He'll be the punchline of jokes. He'll want to stay, I've no doubt.

Given his relative youth, if he insists he'll do what it takes to fit into the system, I hope Rodgers keeps him and gives him the chance to prove himself. Even with an indifferent system, he won't change in value much over a season...

Did we get a fee for Maxi? He had a year on his deal, so we should have gotten something - was still only 31...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭stick-dan

I think an Andy Carroll with a point to prove could come good. Even if only in cups if that's where Rodgers was to only utilize him, I'd still fancy our chances on a cup run or two with him, he'd be effective in Europe with his stature anyway. Only thing is, if he realizes he's a cup player effectively that could work either way, i.e strengthen his resolve to prove a point, or completely void him of any confident previously shown.

Only 1 player at liverpool scored more goals than he did in the league last season and no one got as many assists. With Bellamy (or just his knees) gone you could really do with Walcott's pace.

Walcott is very inconsistent though, if i just wanted pace id stick a greyhound on the right wing.

The Walcott link could easily be his agent stirring it up to get a good contract from Arsenal
