Dept has drafted letters outlining cuts of up to 20% in Single Farm Payments

THE Dept of Agriculture have been warned to ‘think long and hard’ before getting embroiled in the bogs controversy that has raged in the West over recent months, following reports this week of possible cuts in the Single Farm Payment for so-called ‘illegal turfcutters’.

The irony of cutting EU payments because of the potential EU fines isn't lost on me but should the Dept of Ag get involved or steer clear?

How is that irony? Sounds sensible enough to me...cost price?

Sounds like a very good way to do it. The taxpayer paying fines for the failure to comply by a relatively small number of individuals is not ideal. Any who aren't receiving these payment should be given similar fines for the sake of consistency.
