    When I was younger I wouldn't have given a dam once I was getting my rock and roll. I became more selective as I got older and irrespective of what a woman looked like or whatever else if she was a smoker it would be a no.

    your damn right.who do these women think they are? expecting the man they are in love with to give up cigarettes so that there is no second hand smoke which could cause serious illness and lung problems! sooooo unreasonable right? btw two way street doesnt really work when one side is called 'this could get you cancer' and the other is 'this wont'.

    have to say that i wouldnt - hypothetically (as im happily married), i'm an ex smoker and i think dating a smoker would lead to me starting smoking again.

    This is what I love about AH. Looking at the poll at this very second has an equal level. Actually, its an even balance (30/30). Two of my closest friends smoke but don't touch alcohol but yet there are a couple of my friends who drink like its going out of fashion and don't smoke. First time I have ever seen such a balance on AH. (Btw, I was a lurker for a long time before I registered on boards).

    I have dated smokers and I would date one, but reluctantly so, only if I really liked the person. I have a lung disease and it really irritates me that someone could destroy a perfectly good pair of lungs on purpose, I have no choice but to watch my health decline no matter what I do, so I find smokers very frustrating. I couldn't live with a smoker because it increases my chances of infection so that would be a huge problem long-term.

    The poll needs to differentiate between smokers who would date smokers and non-smokers who would date smokers.

    I couldn't. I don't mind friends smoking but I do often wonder if they realise how bad the smell. The same people wouldn't hesitate to criticise someone with BO.

    No I couldn't do it. I just hate the smell. I've noticed that people who smoke and then put on perfume or aftershave, it just makes it worse.

    Gave up smoking 3.5 months ago and I can safely say that I will never date a smoker, even if he's Brad Pitt !

    The reason why I gave up is because they smell horrible, they make your clothes smell and I don't want to die young..!

    When I see people smoke now I think it looks so unattractive and man am I glad to be out of the trap !

    no, absolutely not. I kissed a smoker once and it was disgusting.. it was like what I imagine licking an ashtray to be.

    I would have absolutely no interest in dating someone who smokes, with all the associated health risks and smells.

    No, absolutely not.

    Only dumb people smoke cigarettes (adults, I'll forgive kids for it since they're naive and prone to peer pressure) and if there's anything I find unattractive it's an obvious lack of intelligence.

    On topic, dating a smoker wouldn't bother me but I would badger them to quit (or at least cut back significantly) if I thought they were smoking too heavily.

    I smoked for years and had only ever gone out with smokers. Then I quit and was seeing a smoker for a year and now I'm with a non-smoker and he's the first non-smoker I've ever gone out with. I don't think I could back now although I wouldn't rule it out. As long as he wasn't a heavy smoker.

    I would prefer not to. I wouldn't rule out a guy if I really liked him just because he was a smoker but truthfully, I would be happier not to have to kiss someone who tasted like cigarettes. Urgh.

    As an Ex smoker i have to say not a hope in hell i'd long term date a smoker, it's tough enough as is staying off them, so why put the temptation in front of me..
