god i cant believe their proceeding with this, and on top of it all ryan reynolds is due to play the lead,

    http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=34395

there is no way in hell reynolds could pass as a scotsman, he should seriously consider getting back with his wife he seemed to pick some of his best roles when he was with her, and though she keeps rising hes just keeps falling and falling since they split,

i wonder woud connery be interested in playing remirez again

I agree with everything else, except you do realise Christopher Lambert is American, or French depending on how you look at it? :)

Ah Empire, truly they go out of their way to ensure that their articles are of the highest standard. For years I've been under the impression that Starship Troopers was a product of 1997 but Empire correctly points out in two seperate articles that it is in face a classic slice of 80s sci fi.

I think you can forgive the accents in Highlander as it's pointed out repeatedly that they have lived in numerous countries around the world over the centuries and as such the wandering accents are much easier to accept.

Ryan Reynolds seems to be the go to guy for everything in Hollywood.

    REALLY!?

(Can you post links? I really hate Empire).

I'm going to get laughed at for this, but I think the best 'reboot' of the Highlander series is the anime.

As with any reboot/remake I hope they do the original justice.

I would agree there except that would not account for Lambert's wandering accent at the start of the film :D

Gerard Butler would be a much better candidate for this role.

Hollywood always does this. They get some young actor who everyone hates and tries to make him into a star by forcing him down every one's throats.

They refer to it as 80s cinema here and here

The anime was great, shame that we have yet to see the sequel that was promised. They managed to update the concept in an original and interesting manner that was leagues ahead of any of the sequels.

Not bothered about accents in this, connery as an egyptian spaniard and a scots man with a french accent in the original, still loved the movie regardless :P

Reynolds is a good actor but wouldn't really have him pegged as a Conor McLeod. They should give it to Ray Park imo, he's scottish and can kick arse!!

Agree to an extent. The downside is that it'd be over-choreographed and wirelined-cgi'd to bejaysus....probably more so at this stage!

I feel that this is an appropriate time to quote from "Talladega Nights"
Ricky Bobby: Wow. I feel like I'm Highlander!
Jean Girard: [Jean chuckles, confused] What is the Highlander?
Ricky Bobby: It's a movie. It won the Academy Award.
    Jean Girard: Oh for what?
Ricky Bobby: Best movie ever made.

I'm ok with a re-make; just as long as Ryan Reynolds has nothing to do with it.

What's the name of the anime that you guys were talking about?

    I'm guessing it's this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander:_The_Search_for_Vengeance

Hadn't heard of it before, must give it a look.

    Look, I'll do it.
6'1", dirty Celtic red hair and can do as least as well a scottish accent as Lambert or Reynolds!

Be a bit more timely if you could travel back 20 or so years before the 4 sequels, the two tv shows, the animated show and the anime. Hopefully if they do a reboot of the franchise they can work on the mythos and create one which they stick with for any sequels and simply rewrite the rules for each film.

Reynolds is totally wrong for this. The only reason the first Highlander worked at all was because Lambert comes across like a creepy weirdo with a strange accent, which is exactly how I'd expect a guy who has been alive for 400 years to act. All this was lost in the subsequent films/shows as the character became too familiar.

Will they still use Queen's songs? They were an integral part of the original film.

Still all in the one universe. Anyway, the sequels never happened.

Well it's better than The Source. ;)

As a lover of the original I'm more or less fine with a reboot in theory. Oh I expect this version will be lousy (script review from circa 2009 here) but I think it might have been better to revitalise the franchise and concept by starting again with a(nother) TV series. One which doesn't have flashbacks that are superfluous to an episode's plot simply because they stuck to the same format every week.

I was a big fan of the original and the TV series as a teenager. The sequels were utter tosh though.

Darko, when you say two tv shows are you referring to the series' move to Paris? Or was there a different series than the one featuring Duncan McLeod? I remember it very distinctly changed in tone towards the later episodes and became as much about the watchers etc. but had always assumed that was akin to Baywatch and "New Baywatch" i.e. a change of production company etc. rather than there being two distinct shows...

I like Ryan Reynolds in disposable comedy films, can't imagine him doing Conor McLeod justice but I'll certainly still watch it out of fond memorys for the original series. Expect a scathing review at some point. lol

There was a spin-off show called Highlander: The Raven.

As Sad Professor posted it was Highlander: The Raven I was referring to, easily the low point in the franchise and as you can imagine it was very, very, very badly done trash.

Raven is the only non-Highlander product I haven't scene, and if it was the low point I don't wanna see it!!!!!!

I like Reynolds, thought he was good in Buried as well as some of his other comedic roles, but I would be amazed if he pulled this off with credibility
