Garmin Route Planner - Disagrees with everyone else

Driving Roscoff to Vendee coast in the summer. Banged in the route into my Nuvi 1440. It gave me a route sort of straight down and to the coast, and gives it under 4 hours. Driving Roscoff to Vendee coast in the summer. Banged in the route into my Nuvi 1440. It gave me a route sort of straight down and to the coast, and gives it under 4 hours.

However, everything else, (Tom Tom, Google Maps, Viamichelin) all send me towards Rennes and Nantes, and rate this at just over 4 hours. They put the Garmin route at nearer 6 hours! Is Garmin off the plot here? Can I change it to make it give me what appears to be the better route?

Check your routing options on the nuvi, i.e. shortest vs. fastest, and any avoidances you might have selected, esp. toll roads.
