Was that the one with the two circles and with the first one radius 5?? If it is then I got a totally different equation:( can't really remember it but it started with 2x anyway.

Tree Digram would sort ya to make sure you get all outcomes of the boy and girl question.

For the circle thing on 5A where it said draw a tangent to the circle did you just need to use the compass and have the line just touching at the side of C?

Didn't like that paper. I'm hoping paper 1 will keep me afloat :p

I just made sure the tangent forms a 90 degree angle , using the right angle ruler...

Gah, I'm scared reading this thread because sometimes I see that a particular answer I did was wrong. Ah well, attempt marks!

Anyone know when the paper goes online?

    Here's my answers in full:
(I know I probably made a few sloppy mistakes.)
Could anyone assess my chances at an A1 if I got 290+ marks in the Paper 1?

    Section A:
    Question 1:
    (a): 8 results.
(b): boy-girl ratio and amount already present.
    (c):1/8
    (d): Niamh; with a 6/8 probability.

    Question 2:
    (a) Clubs = 13; Pictures = 12; Clubs & Pics = 3; Total = 52.
    (b) i. 1/52
    ii. 25/52
    iii. 0.27

    Question 3:
    (a) Graph plotted.
    (b) Proved methods of same slopes; and same length || sides.
    (c) Slope method proof.

    Question 4:
    (a) x^2 + y^2 = 25
    (b) True.
    (c) (x+6)^2 + (y-8)^2 = 25
    (d) 3x - 4y = -25

    Question 5A:
    (a) i. Tangent is perpendicular to the center's line to the point of contact.
ii. Tangent constructed with the compass method.
    (b) Circumcenter & Circumcircle properly illustrated and labled.

    Section B:
    Question 6:
    (a) i. Barchart
    ii. 121,128
    iii. 59.7%
iv. Relative arguments given for both Aoife and Paul's arguments.
    v. A good bit written for this; hope it's secured.
    (b) i. Increased demand @ new years.
ii. Christmas halts buying demand during the October-December months.
iii. Worked out the average % of the total for each year, that was the 1st quarter. Then worked out 100% from that. Got ~77929.
    (c) i. Petrol: 26.7%; Diesel: 71%; Other 2.3% {relevant degrees shown in work}
    ii. [D]
    (d) i. Stem-and-leaf drawn with correct key.
ii. Good information; assuming atleast half marks.
    iii. ^ Same as ii.

Question 7: >>> My favourite question on the paper :D
    (a) Wasn't sure about the definition so just said that all angles are less than 90*.
    (b) 12.5cm
    (c) 8.544cm
    (d) 34.176cm
    (e) Stays within limit, got 11.4m.

    Section C:
    Question 8:
    (a) i. 2cm
    ii. 3.4cm^2
    (b) i. Filled in lengths in mm.
    ii. 4733.33mm^2
    (c) i. 12cm
    ii. 108cm^3 (Stupid mistake. -.-)

I really hope I can maintain the A1 grade. Can anyone let me know if I've lost it from sloppy mistakes?

    Anyone get 34.176m for Question 7, (d)?

If not, let me know the correct answer.

I screwed up badly on that Boy Girl thing. Only got 6, sums up my leaving cert to be honest

for simpsons rule i was in a rush and i took h = 5 (people say its meant to be 20 here :/ )
So i got... A=5/3{F+L+4(evens)+2(odds)} and i did that for the top and bottom half and got rougly 168 cm squared..

Anyone kno how many marks would be lost here?

Also, can anyone tell me how many marks were in the area/volume section? was it 50? im just curious and the papers arent online yet, thanks.

And what was the answer for the question about the parallelogram in the circle question and you had to give two solutions and show one. I wrote down the slope and mid point.

I hated the circle questions about the tangent etc.. and the enlargements was awful :/ but everything else was good apart from that! especially the card question, pretty sure I passed now :) wooop!

Aw man, seeing your answers is makin me feel bad now. I thought Niamh had a probability of 7/8. and for question 2 (ii) i got 11/26. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭celtic10000

I said the slope and distance formula but im not sure if the distance one works.. i also said to split it into 2 triangles and get the area of each and if they both have the same area then it is a parrolellogram.. i used the slope formulae to prove it tho

    An0N

    Q1D - i got 7/8

2Bii - i got 22/52 because the three picture cards already have 3 clubs , so you count them twice if you say 25/52

4a - the equation of the circle with centre 0-0 is just x^2-y^=r^

    4d i got x-y+7 , what was your slope , mine was 1

Two cards are drawn from a pack of 52 cards . find the probability that neither
of them is a club or a picture card .

The probability NOT to get a club or picture was 30/52 than for the next one was 29/52 so i just wrote 29.5/52 .... Im not sure if its write.... ( supervisor gave me a spare paper :D )

Thought I didn't do too badly. Made an absolute balls of the first paper, hope I got the pass with this one. Although, I was raging at the cards question. I clearly remember my maths teacher saying a few months back to learn the pack of cards, and what came up? Yeah.

Actuly thats what i did but its 30/52 x 29/51 (yes its fifty one because you've one less card overall to choose from) so that is = 0.328 ... Did anyone get that?

What did you's do for the venn diagram? I hadn't seen it since the JC.
I drew a new venn diagram and put 3 kings, queens and Jacks in one circle and then the clubs A-10 in another circle then 1 king, 1 queen and 1 jack of clubs in the middle :S. I wasn't quite sure what to do.

Then the next question included all the cards for the answers.

In fairness...how do people not know about a pack of cards?! It told you how many face cards there are and that there are 52 cards in a deck. All you had to know was that there are 4 suits and 10 non face cards. Have people really never come across a deck of cards....

It's 30 on the outside 9 in the faces, 10 in the clubs and then 3 in the space where they cross over.
