Voted yes in the end, though it saddened me to do so.

Didn't vote as I was taken off the register.

    It's a conspiracy I tells ya!

I was all set to Vote Yes. But certain campaigners have really annoyed me so I changed my mind. Still don't think No has a hope.

    You'er dead right...

"0943 A tally in Dublin North has Yes at 40% and No at 60%.

0939 With 10% of boxes open in Dublin North West, the tally has Yes at 47% and No at 52%."

With all factors weighed in, voted Yes. Disliked doing it, but would have hated voting No so much more.

Voted yes. Dublin north and north west is hardly representative of the rest of the country. Id safely say a no vote was expected in those areas
No boxes opened in cork have favoured a no vote!

What is this ridiculous stuff that has popped up in no circles about using a pen instead of a pencil?

    I voted Yes.... unenthusiastically.

The people counting the votes have been infiltrated by FG/FF black ops with erasers.

Unfortunately I fear that is what people do actually believe, no matter how ridiculous it is.

Some coordinated attempt to subvert the will of the people is definitely far-fetched and trending toward the ridiculous but I would not be so surprised if there was some level of fraud going on, even if it was one or two corrupt tally men.

Voted yes in the end. Read and read on the treaty and ignored the bull on both sides in the end, both the yes for jobs and no to everything

Voted no, informed decision on my part with a broader long term perspective.

Well to be fair, what IS the reason for it? Why AREN'T pens used??

I didn't vote, it went against everything I believe about voting and it's the first time ever but after dedicating my entire day yesterday to researching this treaty, reading facts, articles, peoples opinions.. I realised that I still had absolutely no idea whether I wanted to vote Yes or No.. That really scares me.. So I said rather than voting for something I wasn't convinced about that I would abstain. I hope that the low turn out was a result of not knowing rather than cant be bothered!

I voted Yes, but grudgingly so. I felt the No side didn't provide a convincing argument as to where funds would be sought if we voted no. Also, the prospect of freaking out the markets and scaring away potential investors by rejecting the Treaty was a deciding factor in my decision.

Voted no and it saddens me that it seems like people were scared into voting yes.

    Voted yes.

Voted "no" to Lisbon but I can admit to being misinformed in some regards during that campaign. I'd probably vote "yes" to it were it held again now.

    Agreed.
There is already a trend of begrudging yes votes.
Smacks of a weak downtrodden electorate or a child being forced to do its homework or no supper.

Voted No, but looks like the Yes side have won. We will look back on this in years to come as the day the Irish surrendered Democracy.
Shut up and pay up from here on in - anyone for property tax of 3,000 a year - Irish Times report today, great timing.

How could tally men change votes?

I suspect it's because pencils are more reliable - they don't leak or run out of ink. I don't know for sure, though.

People keep saying we're losing our democracy but when they explain why it's usually a fundamental misunderstanding of what the treaty actually does. I can't help but notice it was exactly the same with Lisbon.

Actually, another reason occurred to me: a pencil (especially a fairly hard pencil like the one I used yesterday) doesn't leave quite such a dark mark on the paper, and makes it harder to see at a glance through the folded ballot paper which way the vote was cast.

Again, pure speculation on my part.
