Alien Blu-Ray anthology is going for 10.99 in HMV at the moment for anyone interested.

I seen it last Friday for €10.99 in HMV but had no cash on me but when back today and it was €15.99.

Plus to add insult to injury the Sennheiser earphones that I also saw reduced to €19.99 were back upto €34.99. So I spent €20 more then I would have last week. Argh! I hate when that happens!

Btw the 6 disc set was €22 but I'm not really interested in the extras and prefer the discs in 4 individual cases.

probably the best set of extras ever, the making of documentaries are all fantastic.

Seconded. I could usually take or leave extras but the documentaries in this set are fascinating.

Especially for Alien 3, where they openly talk about it being a disaster to film going into production with no finished script.

    Alien: a classic.

    Aliens: a classic.

    Alien 3: an interesting failure.

Alien Resurrection: a failure, but I still sort of somehow liked it. Michael Wincott is always great.

Well i watched Alien Resurrection again for the first time since it came out, it really was a rotter, even worse than i remember. Dan Heyaya (remember Alicia Silverstone's dad in Clueless) is in it for a few scenes and its almost worth watching to see how cringeful he is, albeit in a tiny useless role where he can do nothing anyway. Ron Perlman is decent as usual. The script is terrible, its just a boring film.
For anyone thinking of watching the Alien films again in the run up to Prometheus, avoid avoid and avoid some more.

The best Alien game is already out there, Aliens Resurrection is brilliant, spooky and scary.
Runs on the PS1 and so also on the PS3, although don't be expecting awesome visuals, though for it's time they were pretty decent.
Also works really well with the Playstation mouse as it happens.
Alien Trilogy on the PS1 was, not as good shall we say...

I really want to see Alien 3 again. I never got the hate for it, I really loved it.

The problem with Alien 3 for me personally is that it felt awfully second rate at times, like a B movie.

I've said it already in the thread, but Alien 3's hate (to me) is often based on the foreknowledge of the clusterf*ck that went on with the production; and in that respect it was certainly an astonishing disaster.

Coupled perhaps with the ballsy move of killing off most of the survivors from the previous film (offscreen!); and that alone was never going to make friends with the Aliens fanboys who might have been expecting the further adventures of Newt, Hicks n' Ripley.

The actual film's worst crime is mediocrity in many respects, but viewed independently of the baggage it's a solid, dark tale that in many respects rounds off Ripley's arc. Not something to watch as a pick-me-up of course - it's basically a film set in cinematic hell / purgatory - but it doesn't deserve the hatorade it gets.
