Access course information

I'm thinking of doing an access course and I had thought about doing the one in st.angela's in Sligo but as I can't find much info from anyone who has gone through the course (which is linked to the NUIG one) I thought I'd ask a little here as they should be the same course just different locales.

To make a very long story short, I have no junior or leaving cert and had hoped to go back in to education so I thought an access course may be my best route, but I'm unsure whether it would be enough to bring me up to a standard for some of the undergraduate courses (something like earth and ocean sciences were what I had in mind)
So I was wondering if anyone here had been through the access course either in NUI or st.angelas and how they found it from a perspective of someone with little formal education.

Also I wanted to know how it'd compare to other access courses like the one in UCD or others.

And I was wondering if anyone would know what the average hours of an undergrad course would be and how lenient they could be depending on the circumstances.

    Sorry about all the questions:D

    Thanks for any information

Thanks for the info, but I was also hoping to hear from people who have been through the access course.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but rather than starting a new one I'm also interested in hearing of anyone elses experience on the access course for NUIG.

I could google and make phonecalls to find out more about it, but I'd also like to hear from those who have completed it and how they found it, good bad or indifferent.

    Thanks !

I've just completed the Access course and I really enjoyed it. I put a lot of time and effort into it and I am 99% certain that I will be offered a place at NUIG in September. I haven't got the official results back yet but I know for a fact that I passed. The Access course gets a big thumbs up from me.

Did an access course this year in NUIG too. Well worth doing if you've been out of the education system for ages like me.
If you're unemployed, you can do it on the cheap, if not its about 400 euros.
Two/three hours two evenings a week, and some Saturday mornings.
If you pass the course (not that hard) you're pretty much guaranteed access to degree course, so even just from that point of view its well worth it.
