    You can't pay something due on that same day by cheque, it takes at least 4 - 5 days to clear thought that was common knowledge.

    Oh for f**k sake sending back cheques rather than chasing the balance..it really does beggar belief the carry on at times by our goverment. Its like they have to find the most awkward time consuming way to do anything.

    I use "euros" in everyday speech, "euro" when writing a cheque (or some other formal document). As usual, the Irish Government at the time of the changeover made a balls of reading the Euro legislation and promoted the use of "Euro" as a plural in everyday speech (flouting basic English rules of making plurals) when it was only meant to be used in formal situtations, and not for normal use.

    I shouldn't laugh but the way she said it was like her husband's dying words were "Pay the household charge..." yep, 50 years of marriage and that's what it comes down to.
